A 180Gal Shark Tank?

Thinking about a Marbled Cat Shark?? Tank is a 24 deep tank 72 long and 25 high. Would run at least a 55 gallon sump trying to find bigger, but still fit underneath (maybe 75gal), or run two separate tanks and returns, could plum to basement with like a 300 gallon rubbermaid. Thinking one mag 24 or two mag 12's oor just 9.5's? I like cheato so could do that with live rock down below, but thinking only a few pieces in the display? I can get some big pieces like 50 to 80lbs each for the display then just put rubble below. I do very well on water changes as it's not a problem to make it auto every day for a gallon or two. Also thinking sump could bread feeders? I've also seen people have these with tangs and even some inverts? I won't really want coral but would like some tangs and a foxface to help any algae problems. Thinking a basic Marineland LED that will allow it to be lit up but not bright enough for algae? Anyway let me know what you think?

I think you'd be better off using the 300g tub as the shark tank and the 180g tank as the sump. A nice rounded edge tank is better for sharks than a 2' wide one, that doesnt give the shark much room to turn in once it gets bigger.

ive had my marbled catshark in a 300 g. 24 in wide 30 high. for over four years now. it is about 18 inches long and not very thick or round like bamboo sharks get. it is actually pretty active and loves to hide under the medium to large sized rocks that i have sitting on top of some pvc pipes so i can have a dark secure place to sleep during the day and night when it pleases. ive had many tangs with it as well as butterflys and other fish. i dont feed live food. just silversides, krill, squid and the shark formula. the shark is indestructible and has never had any health issus or dieseases or parasites. i had ick in the tank once and it never even showed any signs of it. just have a good quality BIG skimmer and feed it small portions a few times a week and you should be good. although i do think a 180 is rather small for a full grown marble cat shark. i plan to get a 600 gallon when its a full 25 inches so it can have more room and i can house bigger fish with it.

So it took four years to get that big? I will probably go a lot bigger later, but would rather stay smaller for now.

Yeah I'm keeping an eye open for much bigger, however for now I would like to remain small.

So I put the wrong shark. We are going to get a black banded cat shark. They stay smaller .. I guess I should of double checked .. My husband was doing the research at the moment and gave me the wrong name. Lol ...

black banded cat sharks do not stay smaller, usually attaining a size of over 3' in home aquariums. i currently have a 12" bb and a 18" marbled catshark in a 180 and already i see the 18" needing an upgrade in tank size. unlike most though i am already prepared with an empty 300g rubbermaid and also a 10' 1800g pool when the time comes.

you shouldn't even consider keeping a shark in a tank smaller than 1000 gallons. it is extremely cruel and irresponsible to keep a shark in a 180 gallon tank.
