Hello everyone,
I’ve been a long time reader but am new to posting. Happy to be here.
I’ve setup a 2000 gallon tank and plan to collect and stock it with two bonnetheads. I’ll share more about the tank build in a separate thread with pictures.
To folks who have either collected or kept bonnetheads, could you please share your successes, things I should know, challenges you’ve faced, etc? I’ve read nearly everything available and the elasmobranch husbandry manual doesn’t share much regarding bonnetheads.
I plan to collect two in South Carolina, Folly Beach, ideally both over 15 inches, and transport them back in a 100 gallon round tub with a protein skimmer pump for oxygen and a heater so they stay warm during the drive. I understand to improve survival rates I need to land them as fast as possible and minimize handling time.
I will acclimate them once transported back home.
If anyone who has experience keeping or collecting bonnetheads has anything to add or share, please let me know. I’ve kept requiem sharks in the past and am going into this with experience, but want to see what else I can learn before I pursue this in July.
Thank you all so much in advance.
