A ~19,000 Gallon Aquarium

Hey, do ya think maybe expedia.com might have a package deal? ie: airfare, waterfront hotel, camel rental, and tickets to this outstanding build? (lizards not included)

I think expedia.com will have a problem with the camel rental; you know availability and stuff. You will need a special licenses as well :D.

You can also book the ticket and let me know, I'll arrange everything else for you :) including the camel rental :D

The picture of the coral in your tank shows little rod-like things in the sand a probably 1 cm long. They look like tube worm bases.

I actually have 2 pumps right now. They both have pipes coming from the sea and from the fish farm. I haven't finished the fish farm part yet. However, I've been alternating between them since I installed them. When the controller gets here (it is already shipped) I will have both pumps and the props on alternating timing.

Actually I cannot run both pumps at the same time; the refugium's flow is slower than that and the first chamber starts overflowing everywhere :).

I see you are from the Maldives :wavehand:. I loved visiting the country. Planning another trip. I've taken so many pictures while there but there is one I like most: I said to my wife "even their lizards look nice :lmao:. I had it as a background for years after coming back.

You are always welcome here. if you are coming again let me know, we can explore the seas of Maldives.

I did not notice that until you mentioned it :worried2:. Are those bad? I read tube worms like 'non-strong light areas'. The are these things are in gets a lot of light. I'll need to go look closer tomorrow..

Thanks, can't wait to visit again. I would love to explore the seas with a local :). Here is another photo I took:

The passage between beach villas.

wow!
I just read this whole thread.
any plans of scuba diving in your tank? :D

Thank you for taking the time to read through. I hope you've enjoyed the lengthy reading.

I was so close to doing it a couple of times but I kept postponing it for a reason or another. Will do it though.

A Small Video

A Small Video

I turned on one of the turnover pumps. The fish seem to go crazy for it. After the tanks (aquarium and fish farm) were full I turned the sea intake to around 10% leaving the rest to come from the fish farm (the closed loop). I'll keep it like this for a couple of days and see if the water clears up.

The general circulation pumps are being painted with the blue paint to camouflage them and should be in there before the end of the week :D.

Even after all the photos you've posted, I was caught off guard at the size of the tank when you panned right in the video!

i love the crab and fish. what type of coral is in the tank then?

Now this is an embarrassing question since I do not know much about corals :). However, from the book I bought about corals of the region, the coral I brought in is most probably a Platygyra daedalea. I just call it brain coral. :)

Wow, that is great. I love the crab walking around in there. When I think of crabs in my tank, they are something you can fit in your hand. Not the size I would expect on my plate for dinner. This tank must be so much fun, and keep the pics and videos coming.

will the water ever clear up? Im thinking theres to much sediment suspended in the sea water, and if your constantly pumping sea water in ....well it will always be green unless you filter the incoming water somehow..... maybe some HUGER THAN HUGE sediment and carbon filters in line.....

The crabs were mean. We caught it just next to the aquarium and fish farm. They kept trying to jump out of the bucket while snapping the claws at me.

I look at those and just couldn't help thinking this was some 007 movie and that your real intentions were to ransome the world...

How heavy are those? Great pics, I love this build.

They is no hidden plan I assure you (doesn't everyone with a hidden plan say that?!! :D).

If I'm not mistaken the pumps are around 13 kgs (29 lbs). They aren't that heavy if you ask me. I've been told that they have 50 lbs of force so they need to be pinned down somehow, I am thinking the corners of a aquarium at the back (concrete walls) will be good enough. I have them pointed slightly upwards so I'm make sure it pins down itself.

What amazes me is that the sticker on the thing says it uses .37 kW. The brochure says .60 kW. I'm happy with either :D.
