A ~19,000 Gallon Aquarium

impressive! who carries this product in the US and what is the cost compared to epoxy?

Well, the first person that comes to mind is a fellow PDCA board member: Don Dancey at Innovative Waterproofing http://www.waterproofingcontractor.com/
They travel around the US and do this type of coating on underground pipes with robots.Techno Coatings is another big player.

Cost would depend on type of material and millage thickness. There are a couple companies that make this type of product. Sherwin Williams is one of them. You have to be trained and need heavy equipment.

You all know the term "Rhino Liner" for the bed of your trucks? That is also a polyurea coating. Its cool stuff.

Where in the U.A.E. are you? I'm in the USAF and I was deployed to Al Dhafra AB in Abu Dhabi back in 2003. From all the places I've been your country is the nicest country I've been in. I got to go to Dubai and visit the Water park and see the hotel shaped like a sail and it was spectacular. If I ever get deployed to U.A.E. again I definately need to see your tank in person!!!

BTW- UFC 112 will be in Abu Dhabi featuring Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort for the Middleweight title and BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar for the Lightweight title!!!!!!!!

Sorry for going off topic.

It's located in the smallest of the 7 emirates (states), Ajman. The hotel shaped like a sail is called Burj AlArab (The Arabian Tower). Since you were here in 2003 you've missed the opening of Burj Khalifa (Khalifa Tower) a.k.a. Burj Dubai. It is the tallest building in the world right now. Here is a photo I took:

BTW if you want to come see the thank you'll have to pay the entrance fee :D, j/k.

you just got the southern california crowd! lol

the build looks GREAT! Keep up the amazing work

I lived in Los Angeles for 2 years and what really got me interested was my visit to Aquarium of the Pacific. I also visited L'aquarium De Barcelona (Barcelona Aquarium) which got me sold.

They've also recently opened Dubai Aquarium here as well and its amazing, you see it while walking through Dubai Mall (currently the biggest mall in the world. It is just not as private as ours :)

ok my only worry about a skimmer is how much skimate youd pull out and where would you put it? otherwise... THATS BIGGER THAN MY HOUSE! :P

mmm .. you are thinking way ahead :)

I'll be happy to get it up and running and then deal with problems that arise if they and as they arise.

You really did get all the so cal crowd!! And that thing is amazing!! You guesstimate two months that's fast! I'm subscribing!

Hello tntneon,

It is going to be mostly natural lighting. We also have wiring for lights inside the tank but it is more for showcasing the aquarium than helping growth; I'm hoping the sun will take care of that for me :)

Put a mantis shrimp in there!!

If I can find one I will surely do. I'm not sure what will be in the tank at this moment. I will be concentrating on fish from the local environment; maybe a couple of barracudas? :) I've been catching a lot lately while fishing.

I would assume the sun is going to take care of the growth aspect of the lighting correct? All you should need is supplemental to make everything look nice and pretty. Still, that would be a daunting task because you don't want to cover the entire surface. I think most public aquariums use spot halides. Can you tell i'm speaking way beyond my comfort level

Don't worry about it, I'm the one most uncomfortable here, but hay we all try our best. Currently I have outlets within the tank, meaning inside it, where I'm planning to install water-proof lighting, but if need be I'll install lights under the over-the-aquarium-seating-area thing :)

sweet that would be so awesome. this tank is so sweet.

Can't wait to see this up and running! Seems average compared to the scale of other construction projects in the U.A.E. ;).
