A ~19,000 Gallon Aquarium

one of the best projects ever
Thanks

Hey Nahham,

Im from U.A.E and i have not visited RC since 2008! Man im speechless and you dont know how lucky i feel that im that close! I stay in Sharjah. This is one of the greatest works i have seen, i hope that i would get to see it one day. Where is this project located?

see ya around
The tank is located in Ajman near the port area. Join us @ masuae.org for more marine aquarists in the UAE.

What your doing is nothing short of incredible. It's funny but I have a Sohal tang and a Purple Tang along with an African Yellow bellied Hippo Tang and the Purple is by far the more aggressive of the three when it comes to new fish being introduced. The Sohal Tang swims like crazy all day and at night. I use strips of 2 ft. moonlights for night light and it's cool to look at.

After a minute you'll get the idea. I bought these a while ago on ebay. I've had them running for almost two years. Just a thought..

Thanks. I really like the LEDs. I'm thinking of ways to incorporate LEDs but since it is an open top it is a bit difficult. Hopefully I'll find a way.

I have some photos for you. They aren't that good; too hot for me to really concentrate on taking photos. I connected the controller. It says that the pH is 8.7 which I guess is a bit high. The temperature is around 33 C which is high. I didn't calibrate the temperature probe so maybe there is a mistake there. If this is correct I'll need to start covering the fish farm completely until I get the shading for the aquarium. As I said though, I went diving and at 10 meters it was around 33 degrees, so as long as it is not 40+ I'm glad :).

I still haven't gotten the salinity probe calibrated yet.

These images aren't touched at all. It is a bit clearer than what it seems in the photos. I think it is something to do with the glare.

This is under the blue shade.

A top-to-bottom shot.

And through the glass. The coral on the right came up with the anchor and has some hitch-hikers. The glass isn't that clean though.

Another shot at an angle. You can see a collection of the fish in the tank.

A view of the water surface while the pumps are on. I'm uploading a video of the pumps in action. Stay tuned..

Thank you for the video! The props put out a lot more flow than I was expecting. Do you think it will be too much flow?

You make me jealous everytime!! If only I had a backyard big enough...

Here is some photos of various stuff I took today:

My star fish. It is also easy to photograph.

In for a close-up. Sorry about the glass, couldn't stay outside to clean and then take the picture. Temperature 45 Celsius

How the water and sand looks now. The glare is terrible. It looks clearer in person.

Nice build nahham, this is getting better and better every day.

:bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:

did think about adding any kind of sharks or rays ?

the tank is big enough to hold a great white shark. this will make a nice cute pet :eek2: :)

i love the full tank shots. really put the whole project into perspective. great job so far. nice coral, when i pull up my anchor all i get is mud :)

do you have a pic of how and where you installed your props?

keep the pics coming!!!!

Awesome stuff! I'm not sure if it's been discussed yet, but what will you be doing in terms of security? As you get lights and other things up there, I'm sure it will be mighty attractive to some bad people out there. Will there be someone constantly monitoring the tank?

fantastic!

Do you ever worry about the water temp rising?

it fascinates me how much construction is still going on over there. I've never been but I'd love to visit that city.

The tank is awesome.
+1 on the props

Thanks. Will draw something up for the props location. I'm planning to do a better video as well.

The fish will be monitoring the tank all the time. :)

There is no real threat there..

As long as it does not pass that of the sea I'm OK. I went diving the other day and the water temperature was around 34 Celsius (93.2 Fahrenheit). I have a sample coral in there is seems to be doing fine. I also covered the fish farm with 80% shade to bring the temperature down. It seems to be helping because the temperature is around 32 Celsius (89.6 Fahrenheit). I still haven't covered the aquarium which should help as well.

must of missed it, why are you putting up racks for lighting?

My ghetto idea was a bit dangerous. the rack will also hold the partial shade for the aquarium. It also looks better than other solutions I've came up with.

i just saw this on a saltwater info site i wonder if u have seen it yet u could add this to your tank too Panta Rhei Hydro Wizard

Thanks for the advice. I looked at the Panta Rhei Hydro Wizard and it looks out of this world! I am happy with my props though. They have amazing flow. I am thinking of another 2 for my tank :D :D. Not now now, but maybe in a while when the tank have matured enough.

Nice work mate.

Thanks.. :)

My lights are UP!!! :D

I couldn't believe it when I stood in front of the tank today. I was mesmerized by the tank LOL.

I did have a minor problem with setting the controller (Profilux 3 ex elite package) though. I connected the powerbar to the PAB port first and it didn't want to work (only 2 of the 4 outlets I want to use in the powerbar work), so I connected it to the L1L2 port and configured it: same thing. Then it turns out that I need to specify the outlet function which I did for the first 2 but not the other 2. Now everything is working fine. I'm hoping to be able to upload photos tomorrow.
