a aquarium shop at hongkong

In that particular system, just heavy skimming and a serious UV unit + the fish stays short.

the vid is making me leave work early today and go there, will be there in one hr or so.:hmm5:

you live in hong-kong and yet to visit all the shops..!!!!:spin3:
the video in 18 month old though....

been keeping reef tanks in mainland China for over 3 years
we have a similar set up in Fangcun, which is an aquarium market, much like the Hong Kong fish street situation

these places do deal with the public, but they also deal with traders from shops in my case from all over the Guangdong area

so many of those fish will be sold in more than ones and two's

hence the high turnover being mentioned

I'm from Singapore and in southeast asia, such practices are common.

Although i don't judge what's right or wrong, each country and culture have different ideologies and practices.

Asians tend to overstock their holding tanks but keep water quality high by very large water turnovers, UV, etc.

Westerners tend to understock their holding tanks.

It's one of those things that will never rest and will constantly be a debatable topic wether it is right or wrong etc. different practices may seem right or wrong to others, and to each, their own opinion.

I'm from SE Asia and this is common practice here and at times i do not condone it, but most of the time i just ignore. There's a LFS in my countries that bring in hundreds of fishes and keep them all in high turnover, daily water change, UV system, but within a few days, all will be exported out to rest of the world.

Different ideologies.

There will be no end to the arguments and to each their own i guess.

Not asking for a flame or start something, just how i feel :) I like to stand neutral.

Hope i don't offend anyone, i really mean no harm. :)

summed up pretty neatly...

almost make me want to live there :spin3: wouldn't it be awesome to have the availability of fish like that? the fish stores here MIGHT have what you want and most of the time they're sick. I can't believe how clean all the tanks are!

when you are paying 30-40K for monthly rent alone for such small shop, that's really how you can make a living.

anyway, stock turnover is very high for that particular store. fish dont stay there long, especially the high ends..
