A cleaning idea

I hate cleaning salt creep on the inside of my doors to the display tank. Finally, I cleaned them really really good then used double sided tape and affixed vinyl I bought from the fabric store. Now it wipes right off.
I am currently crafting a 3 panel privacy panel to hide a refugium. The back side will have vinyl applied. For cleaning I HOPe to just be able to lay it down and wipe salt off. I am open for other easy cleaning tips.
Let me know.

I would fix the problem that is causing all the salt spray. My 120DT/40b sump has been set up for over 3 years now and I have never cleaned salt from the inside of the stand.

Ok thank you! I'll see what I can come up with. It is hard to cover since some equipment sticks above the sump. I can't afford a nice ready made one. But I will think on that and try to find a solution.
Thank you

I would love to see a pic of your sump set up. Mine has been up for 7 years. It is a 150g but with canopy and hood it is floor to ceiling. My cabintry is furniture grade so if you could let me see yours I would appreciate it

I always just apply enough paint (or poly if stained) so that the surface is "smooth" and everything wipes up easily.. Sanding between coats,etc..

Another item I find handy is flour sack towels. They are my reusable paper towels, lol.
They are lint free and washable. I have a stack in the kitchen for drying dishes, another in my crafting room and some in my aquarium tool section. You can clean your glass with no streaks or lint, clean other items and toss in the laundry.
I was hoping to have this thread as a cleaning tip area, but seems no one wants to play, oh well *sigh*

I know it was only an hour. I was just commently that replies so far were not exactly what I hoped the thread would focuss on. I apologize if I offended anyone. I do at times word things wrongly

I also understand it takes newbies a while to be accepted in a new forrum until the ice breaks. I'll post more and feel confident we will all eventually become more friendly :)

You have not offended anybody. Certainly not me! (you'll have to try way harder for that!!!!:fun4:)

I was just suggesting a way to make it easier for you to maintain your tank.
I don't have a premade sump either - I use a 40 breeder with some baffles siliconed in place. The drain line from the tank is in the far right corner positioned so that there is not salt spray at all, and therefore none to have to clean up. I made the mistake years ago of not paying enough attention to that and ended up replacing the drywall behind the tank when I moved!:sad1:

The salt creep on the drain lines is there only because they are not glued in place - so that should I need to remove the sump, I can. Chunks of it will sometimes fall down into the sump where they can harmlessly dissolve.

As for cleaning - I use a product called "Invisible Glass" and paper towels for routine glass cleaning. For the inevitable salt creep on the top frame, a damp towel on water change day takes it right off. I am very much a "K.I.S.S." type of guy - Keep It Simple for Stupid (that would be me, btw) I have found over the years that the easier any given job is, the more likely it is that it will be done as frequently as it should be.

Welcome to Reef Central. We are here to share ideas that can make this hobby more enjoyable for all of us!
