A couple of new things today:

You can flick the side of the vial also to dislodge any bubbles on the side of the cuvette.
And do not use tap water to rinse or clean the vial.

I have more searching to do that was what I got in about 30 minutes of randy Holmes reefkeeping article

Some how I missed your part on po4 reduction and thought this pertained to the testing procedure.

Id get some lanthum chloride and put a drip a day into the body of your skimmer. It works great and the po4 will be skimmed out. Is start slow at its very powerful and you don't want to change anything to day anyways. I'd do it for 4 or five days and test again. Then raiser the dose of needed.

So don't bother with a sock. Put one drop in the skimmer i.e. Take collection cup off and add one drop. And why don't I want to change anything today?? One drop a day for 5 days if I understand right. I am assuming there is a pool version of lanthun chloride that works.

Change anything to fast... Yes there is a pool version that I and others use. Seaclear. I got mine from Amazon. Don't get a huge bottle as it will last a lifetime.

Just take the skimmer lid off and put a drop in the body of the skimmer. You'll start getting more foul smelling skimmate and it will be whiteish nothing to worry about.

Do you live in the city?

I am doing some reading on the lanthum chloride before I do anything it seems as there are some possible risks dosing with inverts and the precipitation. I used a phosphate remover in the pond I'm sure it was the same thing but I used it all and I just poured it in the water turned kinda cloudy but I appreciate all the help

I went to a local pool store and they had phos free looked it up and was not reccomended for reef tanks. So we took the dogs to get groomed at 10 am on horseshoe lake drive only 5-10 minutes from aquatic treasures. I called him(Damon) I think talked to him about some of the negatives I have been reading about LC and even read about some large public aquariums dosing right in the skimmer. They carry ATM agent green and he told me he accidentally way overdosed directly into the display he thought it was another product with no ill affect. I also saw some online videos of the stuff. So I would feel better knowing this was a product sold for aquariums rather then gamble since there are some different potency LC and some that are not even reccomended at all. So I mentioned that I wanted to put directly in the skimmer and he suggested to go into the overflow but normally right into the display. So there is water that enters sump that doesn't get skimmed first the hits a black sponge so it may catch any of the precipitation. I just want to do it the safest way. For what it is worth while I was buying my mp at corner reef Steve just put his right in the display but we are talking much larger system then mine. Maybe there are others that have used this exact product that can chime in

I just looked up the dosage but it says to remove 1ppm a day at the reccomended dose maybe I will ask Damon when I go as my phosphates aren't that high

I've put my 2 cents in and said the way that I do it to remove the precipitation if any. Stores are one of the last places that I would get advice. I'm not saying they are wrong just that they are trying to sell you stuff. I've used it for several years and experimented with different ways to use it. I also error on the side of caution when giving advice.

Well if you can't tell I really research the hell out of anything I put in the tank but the problem with that is the user lacks the experience and that is invaluable. I did end up adding to the skimmer because clearly you know what you are talking about. I did 5 drops though and will do that for 5 days

I'm curious why you went with LC and not GFO?

Well it was a couple reason I don't have a reactor and the initial gfo would have to be changed out often and I am sure my phosphates are leaching out of the rocks because I don't feed very heavy and do 30% water changes every 2 weeks. The rocks were originally bought in 2006 and tanks were filled with tap water but top and water changes done with lfs rodi. When I did the vinegar and bleach I should done the LC to begin with that's my mistake. That being said I'm not sure if gfo releases phosphate from the rocks I'd have to look it up. So for me adding 5 drops to the skimmer was more convient got it local 15 bucks and I know it is a product meant for fish tanks and will last a long time

My understanding is that you can lower phosphates using GFO or LaCl.

Or Chaeto.
If you have high nutrients/phosphates, chaeto will do very well and be great for the tank. It is supposed to filter out harmful substances as well as phosphates and nutrients.

I'm trying to grow some right now but having a difficult time because my tank is actually pretty clean. I may end up having to just run gfo only.

My local fish store runs both Chaeto and gfo due to the high bioload.

I dont have a Empty chamber in the sump for chaeto but I did dream about last night and could try and do what pife did with a reactor.
