I know the pics aren't the best. But I need to find out what kind of snails these are and if they are safe.
Pics 1 and 2 are the same snail, top and bottom.

This one seems to be eating Astrea snails.

second one is definitely a carniverous snail. That shell is a dead giveaway. I collected a couple of those a while back before I knew better and my astreas were disappearing left and right. Another way to tell is if the 'foot' of that snail has black speckles on it.

where did you get that second snail? looks like some I've seen at low tide out on Honeymoon Island.

Hey Trevis, These are actually a very good friend's snails. Her camera was on the fritz. I think the second one is local. We are thinking Queen conch.

Thanks Mark for posting the pictures. The sundial is already in my sump. Will now have to pull out the three Crown Conchs. They were sold to me as Queen conchs. They are consuming my snails at such a fast pace so into the sump they will go too. Will they survive in the sump? I hate to kill them so if anyone wants them (for what ever reason) they are welcome to them.

Can't they reproduce in the sump, and the tiny ones be pumped back into the tank?

Well Poop! I don't know, can anyone answer that question. I don't want to just throw them out. They are only doing what they were born to do and that's not their fault. I just don't want them eating my snails anymore.

From what I have seen they are all over our coast so you wont be hurting anyhing by just pitching them back into the gulf. let them do their thing in the wild like.

PLEASE unless you know they are native, do not let them go in the wild. It could cause big problems if they turn out to be an invasive exotic...

those second ones are native, I've seen 'em at Emerson Point and the skyway.

You are talking about the large conch, correct? For now I am going to put them in my sump but I really don't want to kill them.

#1 Sundial Snail Heliacus spp.

#2 Crown Conch Melongena corona

+3 agree on both.

The sundial is better off not in your systems at all, even in the sump it's small and could make it's way into a pump, reactor etc..., Maybe even reproduce. As for the Conch, it might do some good in the sump but again be careful its away from any inlet it could get sucked into and jam or block.
