I'll try to make a long story short...
I have a 6 month old 225 gallon in-wall reef, transferred from a 100 gallon that was up for almost a year. About a week ago, on 8/24, my Yellow tang died. I also noticed some corals not looking very good. Tang was breathing heavy on its side. Since that day, no matter what I did, I lost 7 more fish (2 pajama cardinals, 2 firefish, bristleooth tang, fairy wrasse) all exhibiting the same condition; heavy breathing and suffering to their death on their side.
I tried everything I could think of: change carbon, test all parameters with 2 test kits, look for a foreign object in the tank, change water every chance I could, etc etc. Today I went out and bought Prime, more salt for water changes, and a PolyFilter.
Threw the Poly filter in the sump, changed 30 gallons of SW that was ready, and dosed Prime. Last fish to die was this morning, a firefish. So obviously something is still wrong as of this morning, right?
Here's the funny part...with all the madness going on, my Occys did their first spawn tonight!
So here I am, trying to figure out what has poisened my tank, and doing everything in my power to save it, and these fools are making babies!
On a lighter note, everything seems to be turning around today after the Polyfilter, Prime, and latest water change.
I still dont know what happened, but the fish look back to normal, and the corals that have been closed for a week are opening. I just wish I knew what happened.
