A few basic questions

Hello, I am completely new to the saltwater aquarium and you may see me around from time to time posting questions, I hope this is ok.

The basics - 75 gallons tank with 25 gallon sump.

1/ I get my tank tomorrow. My sump is big enough to use either a curve 5 or curve 7 in the "skimmer section". I would personally prefer a curve 7 as I am looking for as much filtration as possible. But I'm not sure if this would be too big and therefore work incorrectly. Do you recommend a magus Curve 5 or curve 7 for my tank? (Without worrying about expense)

2/ as I have mentioned I have a combined 100 gallon system. Also looking for a return pump. I have heard that the Eheim are 'best' and very quiet and understand that the average is 10x tank volume. But which one would you guys recommend? Compact 5000, 1262 compact 3000 or another alternative?

3/ I have got 1 mp40 which I have bought from a friend. My tank is 40 x 18 x 24 (LxDxH). Would I benefit from another mp40 so I an get better flow in different areas of the tank? Or will one be sufficient?

#1 You can never go wrong with a oversize skimmer , as big as you can fit in your skimmer chamber of the sump the better it is.

#2 Eheim is a great brand ! very popular and Mag drives are also popular , no experience but you are on the right path , try to calculate your head pressure height , compare to pump chart and this will help you make your selection.

#3 one pump, regardless how big it is will not be sufficient , you want current from different directions. Did you look at the Jebao RW series ?? i have two units for my 70g Cube and i am in love with them. im sure you could sell your MP40 and buy 2 new units with the money you make !

Thank you. I think I may go for the curve 7 then. Will just measure my sump when it arrives tomorrow to make sure.
Do you think another mp40 would be a better option?
Are any of these Eheim pumps more quiet than the other?

Go with the Eheim pump, Mags are heat producers.
Skimmers that are too large will not perform correctly.
They will skim only on a part time basis when nutrients build up enough.

Here's my 2 cents FWIW:

#1 "“I never used a Curve Skimmer, but my experience with several other skimmers is that an oversize skimmer can create more problems than it's worth.

#2 "“ I'd recommend the Eheim 1262 if it's still available, although the last time I ordered one I got the Eheim 3400, which seems to be the German version of the 1262. So far, it works well. But what I would not get under any circumstances are any of the Eheim compact pumps which are absolutely unreliable IMHO.

#3. I may be beaten to a pulp for this, but why not try a low cost Jabao pump as a counterpoint to your MP-40. If you have a wavemaker function on your controller, you can put one off and the other on for an hour at a time and see which one one you prefer. My experience is that the Jabao pumps last about 2 years or less, while the Echotech pumps last much longer but beyond two years tend to develop quirks which can be repaired (free of charge) but tend to reoccur over and over again.
