a few copper ?'s

update

so hulk is doing fine.
after the 3rd day of treatment he was clean

the thing is that today,10th day of treatment,he is showing some signs again of ick
and some black spots.

1.is that normal?

2.does ick continue to do its cycle until they are none or
once you put cupramine they are dead?

my level i think is 0,40,a little afraid to live to the edge(0,50)

3.when black ick dies you see black "spots, dots" on the bottom?

my favorite LFS uses a home made combo of formaldehyde, malachite green, methylene blue....based on a formula in some book he showed me...
seems to work great ...

yeah,me too,glaukos.... I asked hime to sell me some but he said -no way cause its formaldehyde...
just gonna have to hunt up a formula and make it on my own...

If I were you I would boost the dose up to the recommended level of 0.50 and keep it there for two weeks. The white spots that you are seeing are likely a new infection because the copper concentration was too low to kill the parasite.

I have not ever had a fish with black ich, so I'm not sure if you could see the parasites after they detach or not. Black ich is caused by a completely different organism than regular ich and is usually treated with formalin dips, one every three days.

at the end of the day he is clean again.
i did raize the levels to 0,50 maybe that worked.
i will watch him closely.

on wednesday it will be 14 days.
i'll put some carbon to absorb cupramine make a 50% wc
and see how he goes.if he is clean for the next 2 weeks i will put my "gang"
inside th dt.

what do you think gw?

hottuna,if you try it pls let me know of the results.
it sounds interesting...

btw i'm very happy with cupramine

I would start the 14 days of treatment with Cupramine today, since this is the first day you have a full dosage in the water. Other than that, I think your plan is good.

ok i think i'll go with that

the spots that he has, those few aren't black but brown!!!

what could it be?

it's not black ick for sure

could it be his skin burning from copper?

I wouldn't think it would be from the copper, but it could be places that are healing that had parasites attached, possibly flukes, that left a small wound after the parasites fell off.

i wish it's that...thanks gw,you made me happy

cupramine also cures flukes?

thanks for the many many responses and answers you have given me

You are very welcome! Don't get too happy though, without seeing the fish its really just a guess. You may want to look at some photos of diseases and see if you can find anything that looks similar to your fish.

I would not go so far as to say that Cupramine will cure flukes. Praziquantel is both safer and more effective for treating flukes, but as far as I know copper can kill some types of external flukes at the therapeutic level used for treating ich. I treat all new fish for flukes with praziquantel even if I don't see any symptoms because some flukes can be so hard to detect.
