A few more Frogspawn Queations

What function does the long skeleton of the Frogspawn provide other than the place the head lives? Is any of it alive? Can you separate the fingers at the point they are connected without hurting it or trim some of it off?

I have seen Frogspawn with very thin tentacles, but mine has short thick tentacles. Is there a subspecies difference? Is that a function of either light or flow?

You can seperate them with no harm. Just break them at the base. If you want to trim the stock close to the head you can. But I would stay well away from the head of the coral. Not worth the rish of getting to close. The stock of it is not alive and will not kill the head if you break it just try to not give it alot of trauma while doing it.

Safest is a dremel cutting tool, available for not huge price at Ace Hdw., working at a bench with good control of the piece. Second, a fine saw. Next would be a rose-clipper, but you risk shattering the head in a vertical split, which would be fatal to that head. Keep a bowl of tank water at hand to dunk the piece in if you run into any delays: above all don't let any portion of it dehydrate.

Branching frogspawn coral, {Euphyllia paradivisa} Frogspawn coral, {Euphyllia divisa} .

Thanks, I've seen the diference between those two but thought I had seen some Frogspawn Corals with thinner, longer tentacles. And all of them were that way so they weren't just a few sweeper tentacles.

My boss at the lfs I work at uses LARGE shears, but they snap the stalks like twigs. He last fragged 2 GIANT pieces into a total of 44 frags ranging from 2-5 heads each. Only 2 died, but their heads were well clear of the cut spot so not sure what caused it.
