A few questions about emerald crabs

Ok, i got an emerald crab, and have a few questions.

1) how many for a 36 gallon

2) can they go out of the water at all (my cat is super paraniod, i want to scare him :lmao:

3) can i feed them pellets?

I know about it getting large. My cat is so stupid. He gets scared from my tetras. And they are about half an inch long. I swear he runs away from his own shadow sometimes
