A few questions regarding QT

Hey guys, I finally have my QT up and cycled. My QT is a 39 gallon bare bottom, I'm doing hypo in my QT as I felt this approach might help me a little better being so new to the hobby! so now my main question is... how many fish should I have in QT at one time?
My other questions are:
If I'm running hypo it's it necessary to have it bare bottomed? I know if I use live sand it will just kill off the benefits of the live sand and or live rock, correct?!
Also, using hypo, how long should the fish remain in QT?!

I just hate looking at such a naked tank!
Any advice on using hypo over other methods and vise versa will be greatly appreciated :)

Number of fish will depend on filtration capacity. 30 days is the magic number for hypo but keep in mind if the salinity rises above 1.009 you start over at day 1, even if it's for a second. Use a refractometer that is quality and not a hydrometer. Also you stand a good chance of stressing the fish out when raising the salinity back up and causing disease all over again. I would suggest Tank Transfer Method or Chloroquine Phophate followed by 2 rounds of prazipro

Hypo when gradually brought down does not harm nitrification bacteria but will harm many higher order lives.

I generally QT most fish for a setup, as many as I can find, all at once.

To do so the medium in QT must be very robustly cycled. I often cycle such medium with 10-20 times the highest possible ammonia that might be generated by the livestock, applied several times during the cycle.

The greatest risk is external bacterial infection when doing such QT. I always use UV properly setup.

Overall, the newbie is advised to not QT many fish at once for lack of skills in combating disease that can be transmitted within the QT.
