A few random shots

These 3 were taken on a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. At the time, I didn't know much about SW tanks, but since hanging out here for a few months, I have come to appreciate these shots a little more :)

I am yet to set up a SW tank, but I have slowly been doing research. I am not sure of the names of the last two, but I think the last one may be some kind of Zoa? If someone could ID them, I'd be greatly appreciative as I can finally name the photo appropriately :)

Beautiful tang Rick. What do you use for post? You could clean it up a bit in PS. I'll show you tonight when I'm at home.

Sweet shots
Thank you :)

Beautiful!
Thank you as well.

Thanks Jesse. I do use PS for my editing as well, however, these in particular only got the Camera RAW treatment because I edited over 500 pics for this family trip, and only a handful ever went in to PS. I suppose I could do some sharpening masks on it now, but I'd have to find the original RAW file. I'm open to suggestions however, and I can shoot you the RAW file via Dropbox if you'd like :). LMK

Here you go. I changed the backround to black. There were a few artifacts created from that that I clone stamped. I didn't sharpen or do anything with the tang itself.

Nice, I like it ;). I never thought of just going pitch black, but it actually works. You lose a bit of the mouth but I'm sure I can fix that on my RAW file by bumping it up. I will give it a go later in the week. Thanks agian.

Those are great shots, I really like the PBT!

I like the first shot a bit better than the completely blacked out background one (just my opinion), there is enough dark contrast in that first shot, just needs some of the snow removed instead.

+1 to both points. I get more separation of the tang from the background in the first one.

BTW, I believe the last shot is of a Favia. You could always post it in the LPS id forum and see what Tweaked says.

I don't know what a PBT is, and I will go google Favia as well, lol. I really don't know my way around the names yet, my apologies.

which camera and lens are you using? beautiful pictures.

If I remember correctly I only took my Sony 70-200 2.8 lens and my Tamron 90 2.8. The tang has to be the 70-200 for sure and the other two must have been with the Tammy.

I have 2 bodies, a Sony a77 and an a99. I can't remember exactly but I believe on this trip I went with my full frame body, so the a99. I can always check later :)

Thank you for the compliment. In retrospect, I am sad that I didn't spend more time in these SW exhibits. I wasn't in to SW then as I am now. However, this sets up another round of planning to Monterey Bay, which isn't a bad thing :)

Wow, I want one now. Can you put a PBT in a 75 gallon tank?

I wouldn't be the person to ask this question. The shots above were taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Northern California. I am merely sharing some of the shots I took there :)
