Yup That Stuff
hey guys and gals,

i am really board at work today so i thought i would start a fun game, What is your fav coral that is in your tank? WITH a TWIST. just post a picture of it and see if people can guess what it is, kinda going off of Geo's game. It should be fun be cause mine, when i go home and post a pic of it is still a frag. it will test some good ID skills.

Ok I got one..........ok...two :)

first one looks like you crossed a brain with a hydonphora and a monti cap......you got me

seriously, Is second one a type of porities????

First one appears to be Merulina. Capt. Culley isn't far off since merulina is a close cousin of hydnophora since both are both members of the class Merulinadae.

I can't tell from the photo what the second one is although I'd say porites or montipora are good guesses.

Good ones George.

the first one looks like some kind of favia, and the 3rd one is a alveopora. can you take a pic of the 2nd from a farther angle cause it looks like it is plating out or it could just be the way it was atached to the rock. Good job on the ids from geo. the second on his looks like a monti maybe a poker star, cant really tell the colors.

Correct on the alveapora Vince. I thought I'd trick people into guessing goniopora. Alveopora has 12 tentacles on each stalk whereas goniopora has 24.

The second one is Turbinaria reltiformis to be precise. Good job Captain! The first one I'm actually unsure about. It is not a favite since this has fleshy polyps. It doesn't appear to be acans or micromussa either. It was sold to me by Greg Geguire as gonastria but its not that either. So I would really love anyones ideas as to what it might be. Its a very cool coral which i have never seen anywhere.

OK, try these:

well not sure about the top one, maybe a favia? but the second is a maze brain and the 3rd is a candycane coral.

Correct on all three vince. You get a cookie:)

Of yours, the first appears to be the so called "pulsing" sinularia.

The second is hard to tell due to the small size but could be acropora tenuis. Or due to the large polyps, possibly A. desalwii. Whatever it is, its very cool.

yea i know mine are hard cause they are small. but wrong on both srry jerry...now wheres my cookie...lol...the second one was my favorite coral until i had an awsome salinity issue, and it RTN'd....:(

it doesnt look like the link you posted jerry, the one you have looks fleshy, is it?. i believe RandyO uses a chop or myder saw to cut his, probibly with a carbon cutting wheel. very nice looking.
