A good Canon wide angle lens

I have a 6' long tank and have always wanted to have a good wide angle lens for a full tank shot which I could also use for indoor group shots and landscapes.

The stock 18-55mm lens is just barely "OK" for a full tank shot and I've even tried using the 100mm F2.8 macro but I have to stand all the way across the house!

I was looking at the 16-35mm F2.8 but the price is a little scary. Does Canon have something a little cheaper?

Which camera do you have?
The 17-40mm is cheaper than the 16-35, but it's f/4.

If you have an APC sensor, there's also Tokina's 12-24mm.

If 18mm is barely ok for you then you need the Canon 10-22, which is actually a pretty nice lens and can be had for around $600 used, or a little more new. I took the pictures here with 10-22 on a Canon 40D; I was standing about 6 feet away from the tank which is a little over 7 feet wide.

I have to assume you're using a crop body, 18mm on a full frame would be wide enough for typical size full tank shot, even at close distance.
