A great refugium lightbulb, IMHO!

oh just got a 120 watt replacement bulb for the fuge the color is 5500k it is from homedepot it cost 6.95 from
nventech or something really simular to that name. (it is the Gerneric in a blue color box, the green and yellow boxes are for differen't spectrums).

After installing this bulb I think I like it better than my former bulb.. the color is perfect... not yellow.. or white... its crisp with hints of blue.

I give it a thumbs up...

i have the 5500k from HD and its... okay... never really grew my caulerpa but the chaeto i swapped it out for has kida grown the two pieces that i have together so there is obvious growth, but nothing like Melevs pics.. so i would like to grab up a 5100k at some point...

Bump...

Well as my first post I figure I might as well contribute to the forum. I'm building a refugium and I have been scratching my head about the lighting until I read this post. So first of thank you for all the info. So I went to Lowes and they have a CF bulb by Sylvania that is 5000K!! I didnt pick it but I will tomorrow.

Here is the link for the bulb (its the first one)

They only had 60W and 100W (I dont know what the actual wattage is though). They ran about 7 bucks.

Then I went to Home Depot and the generic blue package CF bulbs are 5500K.

And finally I went to Petsmart and picked up a reptile light that with the built in reflector (looks like aquarium hood light but is only like 8 1/2 inches long) for 20 bucks.

Hopefully this will help someone, and if not, well ya cant say I didnt try

just to dig up something from the grave, i stopped by home depot tonight to pick up some final plumbing parts and bought one of these for my new fuge.

They now have 6500k day light bulbs and I have high hopes for these.

16W @ 6500k spectrum. Very white to me.

Yesterday i bought Megaman BR0623 Par38 23W Daylight (6500K) for my refigium and will tell more details as days pass.

I just set up a standard 75 gallon tank as a fuge. Will these lights be bright enough to light that size tank for chaeto growth?

You would need several of them. IME, the bulbs are good for ~ a 12" x 12" area. I would look into a larger setup. You could use a pair of the 65W LOA floodlights.
