A great refugium lightbulb, IMHO!

My Home Depot has this Commercial Electric bulb that looks just like the preferred Melev bulb:
SKU #590-472, model EDXP38-23. Par 38, uses 23 watts=90watts incandescent. I cannot find printed what the color temp is.

ANYONE know how to find this out?

They were in a 4 pack bubble pack. 4 Bulbs for a $20! A darn good deal!

Just wondering if anybody knows where to find more info on these bulbs?

6500K PC bulbs work great... i have used them a lot. i have always bought them at walmart and lowes. the 6500k spectrum bulbs usually have the word daylight written in the name of the product. once u think u have found one, u just have to flip the package around and read the fine print until u find the spectrum: 6500K

....the walmart ones are 2 for $8 in the 20 watt and i think also in the 25watt. although, i havent seen them in there lately.

FINALLY made it thru this LONG thread. Good job Melev. I bet you get tired of having to repeat yourself so much for those who jump in at midstream :) Would be neat if the forum had some sort of a 'Fact-Board' feature that only the originating poster could add content. That way the originating poster could keep info updated with the progressive facts..kinda like you've been doing with your website.

Anyway, thanks for all the interesting info from everyone on this.

I was using the TCP 5100K bulbs over my fuge on my old system. They worked pretty good. The new system has a 30L for a fuge and I had 3 of them over it. Worked ok. I tried one of the LOA 65W 6500K floodlights over it and wow, it really works well! The chaeto is growing like I have never seen it before.

I picked up one of the LOA floodlights. I've got a 30g high tank for a fuge and I'm trying to decide where/how to mount the floodlight. Currently, I just have some clamp lights on the tank.

i am getting ready to purchase my fuge lighting set up and was wondering which is better for the chaeto? The 5100k or th 6500k?
Thanks for any help

So what everyone's opinion on thoe new 23w 5500k spiral Home Depot bulbs? I just got one to replace by 23w 5000k Sylanvia. Will the extra 500k matter much?

I can't believe everyone who jumps in here and says, 'I've read all XXX pages and I'm wondering, will this 2700K bulb work?' C'mon, even I didn't read them all and I know the 2700K and the 6500K aren't as good as the 5100K! So, where can I get one? J/K :)

The 65W LOA setup rocks. You can get it at Home Depot.

As my wife says, banging your head against the wall won't make a difference.

Here someone goes and somewhat proves that the 5100k, mind you not a double blind type of test over the course of years, but in my mind a valid test and someone says this other bulb is better.

I had the 65k LOA and it works, I have had other bulbs and they worked too. Question is which works better.

The challenge is to get the 5100k bulb, the 6500k are readly available at walmart, HD and other places.

As you state the 5100k appears to work better. 1000bulbs.com sells them. Others have a minimum requirement.

LOL

I've used both the 5100K (several of them) and the LOA floodlight. I've seen much better growth with the LOA floodlight

Flat Lens - multiple spectrums

Flat Lens - multiple spectrums

Is anybody familiar with this particular bulb?

TCP PF2014

It appears to be a "flat lens" bulb with a different type of reflector.
It also looks like it can be ordered in multiple spectral frequencies. I wonder if this is a 'base bulb' and they just change the lens portion to match the requested spectrum?

You can get 5000k bulbs all day long in gardening sections and
in hydroplonic supply websites all over the internet..
3000k is used for plant budding and flower production while plant grow out is usually always 5000 or 5100k. there is a reason for it..
Plants simply do better with that spectrum.
