A. Latezonatus information

I have acquired a pair of A. Latezonatus clowns and am seeking to learn more about their requirements; temp and anemone preferences, etc.. They are in a 60 gallon cube (24x24x24) with a water temp around 75 deg.

I received them a three days ago and have already noticed that they are quite bold, have curious personalities, and eat very well!!

However, I cannot find information about them and I was hoping those of you that have/are keeping them successfully could chime in.

I've read they like cooler water. What is the best temp range for them?

What anemone(s) do they prefer?

I've had my pair for 3 weeks now, they're hosting an rbta.
I've got them in a system with temp around 78 and they seem fine.
They, especially the female, eat like pigs but feed their anemone well.

I think there are a few people keeping them on mofib. I also think I remember reading a thread of guy breeding and raising young also on mofib

Sullyman - thanks for the info. Have you covered the tank they are in? I have read that they are jumpers.

ExtremeClownfish - thanks. I will check that out.

Yes, they are jumpers. Natural symbiots are H. crispa and E. quads. Lower 70's are ideal temps, but warmer reef temps seem to be fine. Natural temps range from 67-77 (winter-summer). Watch closely for brook, but the ones coming in the last few years just don't seem to have this problem like they did years ago.

Other then that, enjoy, I'm sure they will quickly become your favorites.

....This goes back to another thread/question... but is this a crispa?
I will either put this anemone in their tank or a few RBTA's...

We need pictures!! Congrats on your new aquisitions.

Thank you. I actually took a lot of photos over the weekend but forgot to upload them to Photobucket... I hope to have time to do that later tonight.

Doni,
I have had my Latz pair since Feb '09. They are doing very well at a temp of 72 F. I keep them by themselves in a 75gal and they are hosting a large bubble anemone. Congrats on your new pair!

I know the other thread went back and forth but the pic above looks like H. malu to me...

Congratz on the Latz, looking forward to pic's!

I keep mine at 77 degrees, thinking I might drop it 2 degrees, and cutting lighting time to simulate winter time with hopes of raising them next spring to entice them to spawn. I tried lowering the temp even more but my H. crispa did not like it too much. And yes, the clowns are glutonous pigs. That pic of the anemone might be one of those cool purple H. crispa. What color is its base?

Doni - Keeping a pair as the only inhabitants in a 38 gallon tank. Tank is chilled to between 75-76 degrees. They are hosting in a GBTA and have several other RBTA's to choose from (which they do not).

Keep em fat! They are enjoyable to watch for sure!

Congrats!

Kurt

I am QT'ing them in their 60 gallon home and added a bold copperband butterfly to help them relax.

I immediately began antibiotics (myracin-two saltwater) because the female had pop-eye in her left eye and had a red streak on her tail. I have also performed one formalin dip (30 minutes) on each fish due to the body discoloration. I will most likely perform 2 more dips...

Both are eating like PIGS and other than a chase every now and then, are getting along very well.

I plan on adding anemones in a few months.

Photos taken upon arrival:

NO offense but they look a little rough but it sounds like they are in good hands. Good luck

I know of alot of people have them that visit rareclownfish.com
that might be a helpful site to visit (sorry for the plug)

I agree they do look rough.....take goo care of them. If you think they are beautiful now, wait til they heal up! I love mine!

I hope this is the case Chris. I think it's mainly size issues as it's the larger adults that tend to get brook and die. I've lost dozens of latez over the years due to brook. I do have a juvi. pair that are doing absolutely awesome though (hosting in a couple gigs). This is the first juvenile pair I've ever been to able to find and hopefully I don't kill 'em.
