A Little Update

It wasn't glued to the shell, so it's possible it just detached and floated off somewhere, though it is possible the crab ate him as well. The tiny ones like that have gotten lost on me before, and I find them behind rocks and stuff later on. That specific one floated off on me a few times until I put it in a cup and got it to hold onto a shell, but it's likely it didn't like the move the other day and didn't want to hang on anymore. If you ever want to try another one someday and never find the little one, I might frag one of my mushrooms when they get bigger.

You can leave molted shells in the tank. There really isn't any meat on them to foul the water, and the crabs should eventually eat them to regain whatever minerals they left behind in it.

Well it seems that my mushroom is a goner! Poor little baby mushroom :( He was just a lil guy and I believe my Emerald Crab must've eaten him cuz there's no trace of him having ever been on the piece of shell he was glued to.

I had a feeling this could happen as I've read mushrooms are a favorite treat for the emeralds and this one was just the right size for him (about a half a pencil eraser's circumference). He must've thought I was serving it to him on a platter! LOL!!!

Also - should I be scooping out molted body parts I see from the crabs and shrimp or do they eat it themselves?

Hate to say it but I'm glad our emerald crab bite the dust and we didn't replace him. I've read they can be a real terror sometimes.

I don't think there is any need to remove the molted shells, mine never last more than half a day before the CUC takes care of it.

I have 6 emeralds in my tank an a few of them are pretty large. I actually feed a few of them pieces of shrimp with tongs and they do a snatch and run. One of the larger ones also positions himself hanging off of rock with his claws as far apart as possible and tries to catch tangs.

Yeah Blitz they sound like bold little buggers! Mine just hides and hides some more but i do see his claws flail when the fish go by him.

So last night i did a water test and my results were more of the same.

PH 8.1 Ammo 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate close to 40 but not quite as dark....soooo....a 30ish.

So still overall much better. Have fed the tank twice this week. Sunday Mysis and a few pellets and Thursday Mysis and Brine.
