a miracle delivery... need advice

This is gonna be an incredible tank!!! Just remember to keep your hands out of it Lang and let your wife work her magic!!!

Thanks! LOL!

Lang try calling Syracuse Forest Products (a division of Thruway Hardwood Plywood), they may stock 5 Ft wide sheets of plywood.

Why do you need a 3" thick top?

I've used Lakeside Moulding (www.lakesidemoulding.com) and Scherr's Cabinet and Doors (www.scherrs.com). Neither are local but the doors shipped fast and were easy to order.
I will try Syracuse Forest Products, it will be great if i can get a 5ft wide sheet, means less putty for me :)

3" top becuase, the corner trim are 3" and it looks more pleasing to me when things are that sort of way :D

If it's going to be trimmed anyway, why not rip down 2x4s to 2.25" and build kind of a "joist" system (make sure to support the entire perimeter), and just skin the top with a 3/4" sheet of plywood, split down the middle on a double "joist". Much less material, and there will be no need for an additional center support.

Just a thought...

just a thought buts it a great thought! i have to rethink the top, your method uses far cheaper materials and it give me support, idk, i have to to think about it again, i hate the center support as i just installed it, its looks fugly!

i called syracuse forest product, thanks for the tip, found out they do have 3/4" 60"x60" sheets which will work great but way to expensive for 4 sheets, drew up the joist idea found out it wont work, might have to just shed out the cash for the 4 sheets and be done with it

here a pic with the center support installed, kinda wished i installed it before i skinned it, looks fugly... out of place...

Here a pic with it painted white, painting the trim as of now :)

i will end up going with glueing 4x 3/4 52"x52" plywood together as the table top and using foam under the tank, thanks for the comments :)

I love the tank shape! And that thing looks STURDY!
thanks! i did not want to put the center support back in after i have skinned the frame but at least i dont have to constantly think rather it will be good enough for the long haul, i considered ripping everything apart and reskinning thos two sides but thats alot of work

What are your plans for lighting?
i am thinking of going with something low profile like T5s, either two 6 bulbs or one 8 bulb, not quite sure yet, what do you recommend?

update:
talked to nathan at miracles, sounds like a great guy, probably someone that i can have a beer or two with :), but anyhow, they got the bottom pane tempered and sides cut, going to put the tank together soon

learned that derek is the acrylic guy, mans some machine, cant wait to see this overflow, its going to be kewl!

Got a quote today. Thanks for the sketch Lang!! Looking like I might be pulling the trigger on a Miracles myself!

Stand looks great and looks very solid. Lets get that nice tank placed on there :)

I'd talk to Derek/Nate before you finalize anything with under-tank support foam/wood. They specifically instructed me NOT to use foam.

As far as lighting goes, I think an eight bulb ATI fixture would make bring your baller status to a new level (if that's even possible)! :lmao:

I agree. I'd check with them.

Miracles does not use the floating glass bottom aqurium design. In other words, the bottom of a Miracles tank is in full contact with the stand. A standard floating glass bottom aquarium uses a plastic frame all along the edges of the bottom of the tank. The glass is elevated off the bottom surface and is only in contact with the plastic frame.

With our Miracles tanks, we use a plywood bottom to support the bottom glass. I've have not used foam.
