Unfortunate. I see flatworms and asternia's, but not sure either would have caused such damage......at least not in my experience.
Good luck!

The Asterina is probably just cleaning the area of dead flesh, most likely didn't cause it. The way the flesh doesn't extend onto the bases of the other stalks makes me think it's an alkalinity issue...

it looks to me line skeletal bail out disorder the flesh might be able to live I would put a cup in the tank and place the surviving tissue in it and see if it lives if it dose it will build a new skeleton

I recovered the head. it had a small piece of something hard attached to it so i tried a drop of glue to the hammer that did something like this last week.

Please tell me what you can about "skeletal bailout" searches didnt yield much...

thanks
Drew

My Ca reactor was just refreshed 5 weeks ago and have been tweaking it.
i have had alot of pH and KH issues..

Had been stable in the 11.2 - 11.8 & 8.0 - 8.2
5/22 Replaced Media and Refill Co2
during the re-tune there has been KH from 9.0 - 14.8 & Ca 500 - 550

The last 10 days... (readings taken 10pm)
Mg from 1480 - 1600 to battle bypross.....

pH Kh Ca
6/4 8.45 9.0 540
6/6 8.32 10.6 525
6/8 (25gal WC , GFO & Carbon)
6/9 8.22 11.8 530
6/10 8.15 11.8 530
6/11 8.24 10.1 500
6/12 8.05 10.1 500
6/13 8.15 10.6 500

your thoughts??

With that timing my guess is the ph/alk issues could really be driving it, for some reason euphyllia and mushrooms are really sensitive to those sometimes...

One other factor.. most likely nothing.. but..

I typically use Kent Reef Salt. I use on occasion Red Sea Coral Pro.
the water change i did on 6/8 was with the last of a bucket of the Red Sea.
I had used the red sea in the past when I wanted to boost the parameters and give the tank a different flavor.. so to speak....

Another Pic.... another 1000 words???

Anyone on this???

Are stings coming from the lobo or the monti? Could be lobo extending to battle with monti.
I would also cut back monti or just move it.

the "strings" were gone by the time I got home .....
I think it was the Lobo... it was really neat to see....
I am going to cut back the monti

actually, this is an amazing opportunity, setup a stop motion camera, take a picure every 30 seconds or one minute or something...

(you can get stop motion apps on your phone for free)

it would be amazing to watch the lobo extend them again and work across the monti as it tries to eat it.

you would need a tripod though.

Great Idea!!
I wonder what my go pro would look like in the tank?
It has all retracted and back to normal... I have not fragged the monti yet...
maybe i will give it a few more days
