Looks great Greedo. It has come a long way since "I have a skimmer."

That was a fun thread. I had to change the CMAS link to this thread in rememberance.

nice work but i have a concern about your surge tank. It looks like it's suported by metal brackets and the brackets will get rusted eventually and weaken to the point of breaking. keep an eye on those brackets. Just my 2 cents.

Congrats! I :inlove: the leopard wrasse! your corner tank looks awesome. maybe you should turn the couch around so it faces the tank;)

I didn't support the corner of mine. The wall was framed out before going up, and then skrewed into the concrete floor, and ceiling joists. 3.5" Tapcon for the floor. I don't remember if we used 3" screws or a framing nailer to secure it to the joists. I did a pull up on the corner to check the strength. It didn't budge. You're welcome to check it out if you'd like a better idea of how it's built.

I take it since Sullyman saw your tank, you live around Chicago? Would you mind if I came by to check it out some time, since my tank plan is very similar?

:eek1:
Wow. After seeing how it turned out. Wow.
I love the marble. It must of gotten crazy with so many people working on this project, but the end results are nothing to argue with. The fish look great too. That is..... Wow.

All you need now is some marble base plate! :lmao:

Sullyman found the thread after I talked to him at Sea Schor today. I live out by Elgin/Crystal Lake. You are still welcome to check it out if you want to take the trip.

The strapping has 2 coats of exterior paint, and is galvanized. My surges are sealed well, and saltspray is minimal. I will kepp an eye out for that though. I was smart enough to plumb everything with ball valves and true unions so I could take any part of the return system off line without affecting anything else. So , if it does become an issue I can fix it fairly easily.

Moonjelly, the couch is a 12' diameter half circle so it won't turn around easily. We were thinking about the tank when we bought it though, and got a couch with a low back that is easy to look over. The tank is also built at the perfect height to stand in front of. On top of that, there's a 5" ledge around it so you can put your beer down and lean right up to the glass.

Man, now I don't even want to do my reef tank. It will feel the presence of yours down the road and have low self esteem.

Can't wait to check this thing out.

I will most likely check it out. My plan is a also a bar/in-wall tank (check my little red house for the design), so I am very interested to see how yours is put together.

Wow, that's a great looking finished product! The marble looks excellent as well. Great fish too!

I forgot to mention that I had an exhaust system installed to vent the heat directly outside. I need to get a bigger fan for it though. I'm also going to put the chiller in the room beihend my tank room. That way the heat from the chiller isn't pumped right back into the equipment room.

Thank you. The tank is coming along well. It's about 6 months old at this point. I had an issue with my skimmer not worrking, but the folks at Aqua C (excellent support staff) got me back on track.

I'm currently in the process of adding another 60-80# of rock to the display. I'll post some more pics once the new rock is in, and I have a chance to rearrange my coral.

444, is that a 540.713474 gallon nano cube I see in your avatar!?!?!?!?!? ... full of water!?!?!?!?!? NICE!!!

Awesome setup!!! :D

Any secret tips on building trouble-free carlson surges you'd care to share with a fellow Chicago-area-dude?;)

I actually had some help with my surges (not so much as help, more like a friend built them for me). I can try to get better pics of them, or if you're in the area you can see them for yourself.
