A question about epoxy putty & SPS

In the past I have tried to secure frags to rockwork with cyano gel .... sometimes successfully and sometimes not so. I recently got an aquacultured acro that was secured to a good size rock with what I think is the epoxy putty. Not only does it look much more "professional", but the bigger base has provided stability to the piece - especially in the strong flow.

The other day I got a (gorgeous) pink stylo in from Reefermadness. The bad news is that it is way to big to secure to a piece of rock with gel (at least I think it is.) I was hoping to build a putty base like the acro has and on a rock big enough to provide stability (the stylo is 4 - 5 inches wide.)

Exactly what kind of putty should I use and where is is available? I am very familiar with using epoxy from tying flies, but I kind of doubt that the "putty" is at all like what I used (clear and runny.) Finally, is there a secret to working with it? Thanks.

I bought some from Acqu hut a couple of weeks ago. It can be easily shaped into anything you want and maintain that shape. But it doesn't work well on wet surface. Should be good for filling big crevices and holes though.

At our last fraggin Demo at the NJ Reef Club meeting, we learned a neat trick for making the epoxy putty stick better. when you break of a piece and knead them together to form the expoxy putty, work some super glue gell into it as you work it and shape it. Then when you push it into the rock work (even vertically) and hold it for 15 seconds, its stays perfectly.

i use the deltec/dd brand cause its pink.

i knead a ball and then use cyano gel on both sides.

frag>gel>epoxy>gel>rock.

works pretty well, but as noted it makes skimmers go nuts.
