A reef bathtub?

I'm sure there are plastic drain fittings available. Replumb the thing into a sump. Fill er with LR and corals/anemones, hang some metal halides and your in business! This is just too cool! Getting me excited, now what could I use? My wife would kill me if I started another tank right now, LOL!

I to am finding this thread entertaining. I see no reason why we cant have a little fun and use our imaginations. After all this is the Reef Discussions forum and we are discussing a bathtub reef.
Moving on........

You could even go as far as re plumbing the tub spout to be the return from the sump. PVC of course. the shower head could be like a passing rain storm...lol

It doesn't say if it works on coralline algae.

Do you spend that much time on the crapper? Atleast you will have a comfortable chair next to your tank. Be careful if you spend to much time your legs may fall asleep and you might fall in when you stand up.

Mods, can you kill this thread please?
Sometimes we need to take a break from all the seriousness of the reef hobby, I like threads like this it's one of the first things I look for when I log on before I have to read about some poor guys tank crashing, keep-em comming guys.

DC must not have logged on yet, she'll kill this thread quicker than a goby in an overflow.

I really like the hot tub / jets idea, but I'd be concerned about the bubbles those things can create. Since you can only look at the tank (err, tub) from the top you might want to keep surface agitation to a minimum.

When you're plumbing, keep in mind that sewers can backup to the tub..

Looking forward to pictures!

Are you talking about the gasses that will come up if you dont drain water for a couple of months. we were redoing a bathroom. and wee didnt touch it for about 6 months and gas started to come from the drain.

I was thinking more along the lines of emergencies / backed up city plumbing -- I do know that if a toilet isn't flushed for a period of time it can smell up an entire house.

Me neither fortunately -- have seen it though -- in a beautiful 5000 sq. ft. home for sale none the less. When you walk into an open house and there are two candles lit in every room, you might want to start asking questions :)

Yeah because this is a VERY serious hobby and having fun on these boards would be just wrong and irresponsible.

Love the goby in an overflow analogy! For some reason I actually got an image in my head of what the person killing the thread would look like...

I don't see the advantage unless your bathtub is clear. Looking at a reef tank from the top doesn't look as cool. I guess you could get out the mask and snorkel :D

I'd like to turn a pool into a reef tank. Then I could go snorkeling in my backyard! A tub might be a little too small.
