A sad day...

*sniffs sadly* Well, it is a sad day. I have lost my first tank inhabitant since the great crash.
One of my 2 emerald crabs has gone to the melted butter tub in the sky...

Actually, on second thought, I am glad the little rat bastard croaked. He was eating my coralline and not touching the bubble algae like the second one was. I hope he choked on a piece of coralline.

Seriously though, water params are great and there was still algae around so I am assuming that he died just because he died.
No biggie. The shrimp took care of the Aiptasia and love their new diet of flakes and the second emerald grab doesn't eat anything but green algaes so I am good to go.

On a side note, anyone have any ideas for me...I want to build a maybe 8"l by 8"w by maybe 18"h sump out of acrylic...mainly want to use it for refuge duty. My biggest problem is my stand isn't big enough for anything else. But I figure some refuge is better than no fuge at all right? So, anyone built an acrylic sump lately?

I've got a 5.5gal glass sump you can have, has a hole drilled for an overflow and baffles. Its 16L x 8.5W x 10H

I am going to be in Osky today picking up my new tank and can bring the sump Allen is offering you up to Des Moines.

Umm, are you sure that your emerald crab died? When they molt, the end result looks exactly like a dead crab and when they molt they tend to hide for a day or two while their new exoskeleton hardens.

Nah...definitely was not a molt. Wasn't a failed molt either. It was just dead. I have enough hermits and a couple of shrimp so I have seen oodles of molt exos.

The other one just recently molted and it looks similar but definitely not the same hehe.

Well, I was fooled several times when I first got my Emerald, the molts often do look EXACTLY like a dead crab, so I guess I wouldn't be suprised if he's still in there somewhere.
