Hi folks!
My name is Luis, and I live in Madrid, Spain. I've been in the marine hobby since I was 8 years old, and now (22 yrs) I can finally fulfill my dream. But, first of all, I want to thank Chingchai Uekrongtham for inspiring me and many of us, this system has Chingchai's essence.
I'm in the middle of the setup of a +- 1200 gallon build, which consists in:
Display tank, 90x48x48", 877 gallons
Sump, 47x47x22", aprox 200 gallons
Refugium, 47x47x31", aprox 265 gallons
Entire system, 1340 gallons
The sump and refugium dimensions are not definitive, but those are the approximate.
The skimmer is a Bubble King 650 external (I'll post pics later), we received it 2 weeks ago!
I only want to use "natural" methods to fight against nitrates and phosphates, so I'm not going to use any po4 reactor, just a Calcium reactor (deltec pf1001, up to 5000 liters) and a kalkwasser reactor (to help with phosphates and pH levels).
On the pumps side, my first idea was to get 6 vortech MP60, but the glass thickness (1,18" or 3 cm) was too for the Vortech pumps. So we decide to install 3 Tunze Masterstream 6508, each of them provides more than 20K gallons of flow per hour! With all the pumps at 100% power, they are going to move 73 times the entire volume of the display tank.
For the lighting, I want to test the LumenBright large reflectors, getting 8 of them, with Ushio 14k bulbs and 8 dimmable ballasts (the brand isn't decided yet). Many of you will say that's too much light, but I prefer overpowering the system and lowering the photoperiod hours rather than crying for a low lighting setup.
And now, after a boring speech, here go the skimmer pics!!! Hope you enjoy them:
