His name is Munch and I've had him since last December when he was just a baby. I kept him in quarantine for four days until I was sure he was eating Nutramar Ova and then I introduced him to the Display. At first he refused to hunt and only accepted target feedings. He got a little thin there for a while, but once he started hunting he plumped right up and I was also target feeding him the ova. My tank has always had sufficient pods to sustain a Mandarin, but I've kept feeding him frozen food to augment his diet. He started going after Hikari Enriched Brine Shrimp when I fed it to the other fish, but finding a spot to feed it to him without the others butting in is tough. A couple of days ago, Munch came right up to the feeder and struck the food as it slowly came out the end of the feeder. I thought it might be an accidental thing, but he now does it for every feeding. If a piece of food floats away from the feeder tip, he will grab it out of the water column. This is unusual behavior for a Mandarin and I'm not suggesting that they can be trained to do this, just that this particular fish is acting out of the ordinary.
