A Splash of Color

I just remembered how i acquired the acro in question.............. you guys really need to put your thinking hats on if i'm going to get out of this tricky situation. :(

The other acro i bought using my golden ticket from Dom and Georgia - cardinal in residence already. If you have tables low over the sand i promise you that these little guys are just what the doctor ordered

Can i spend a golden ticket or can i spend a golden bloody ticket ! :smokin:

Thanks for the update Andrew. I was curious because I love the light body colors with darker coralites but I can never seem to keep the body colors light, they always become more saturated with pigments and i lose the two tone look. As far as Dom's piece, I think you cannot gift away a piece that was bought with a golden ticket as that would be like giving back a gift, and that's just plain insulting. You wouldn't want to insult Dom, so by not giving him that branch your actually treating him with respect......That's called "coral logic". Kind of like my wife's logic when she tells me how much she saved me by buying her new shoe's because they were 30 percent off.

I agree with Scott. You would simply be regifting the coral. Now thats a big no no.

Marty

Obviously Tato has taken a shine to the frag and biggles, being the kind hearted soul that he is, couldn't bear breaking up a shrimp and his best mate. These shrimp pick their cleaning stations for life, right?

Or you could say the combination of a smoke, a large bag of doritos, a jar of salsa dip, a mars bar, 3 cans of coke and blinding new T5 bulbs caused you to enter a higher level of aquascaping consciousness that is hard for mere mortals to comprehend. Do not try this at home kids, this is cutting edge stuff.

Andrew, any updates on the "massive surprise at Daves?" How is Domshop working out?

Marty

I received worrying news from Dom today Marty, he was at the shop sending me pics of nothing i liked - he's my beta test version of the acro shopping app i recently invented. I call it Domshop and what sets it apart from other online stores is that you can ring the camera guy and make him take closer pics or pics of a piece from different angles.

Whilst texting back and forth Dom thought it was funny to send me a pic of a clam....... ha ha Dom

' Clam shmam they're flubber in a shell '

' Haha i knew you'd say that '

' You've got a massive surprise waiting at Dave's for you too haha '

........... that doesn't sound good Marty, not good at all. :(

Hey Andrew, have you tested PAR of your 400w Radiums? I just installed one over my tank and I'm getting the same PAR I was from my 6-bulb ATI!

Using IceCap ballast. Age of bulb unknown. This might be the biggest problem. I'm just wondering if it's worth my while to bother spending the money on a new bulb or trash this idea???

Hey Scott, i struggle to keep most pastels too and lose the deep contrasting tones between polyps and light skin tissue. I always treasure any pretty piece with high polyp to tissue color contrast, SSC is a good example of an acro which actually maintains great contrast even when saturated - i should get one tbh.

What if Dom just shrugs and says he isn't offended and still wants it - that's what you and i would bloody say now wouldn't we Scotty.......

I agree with Scott. You would simply be regifting the coral. Now thats a big no no.

Won't cut the mustard Marty, Dom is a crafty little bugger so i reckon he'll see straight through that idea. :thumbdown

Looks like it just up and rtned to me. Sorry dom.

How the hell is that going to work when Dom drops over ten times a year........ that sorta thing might work in the softie forum mate but we are talking about real corals - corals that matter !

Dom knows i would never apologize for anything so you got that wrong too.......

Dom won't care about Tato's feelings, he's a wranger so has heart filled with sand........

Andrew, any updates on the "massive surprise at Daves?" How is Domshop working out?

Marty

Well now Marty, funny you ask mate........

The massive surprise turned out to be a cruel trick that Dom and Mark thought would be funny to play on old biggles....... turned out to be a few 1/2" fresh cut frags dropped off for me and those two jokers knew what i'd think of them lol.
Anyway, i'm going to take a white glass marker to Deer Park next visit and write silly prices on all the tanks while no one is watching. Take one guess who Dave will make razor blade off, and then redo the prices - right after Dave tells Mark to fix what i did i will suggest loudly

' Might as well clean the inside glass too since you're cleaning the outsides '....... i will say this standing at the front door because Mark is a lot bigger than me and might snap - you need to think these things through and plan, not run with some half arsed prank such as the one tweedle dumb and dumber did...... you're in the revenge sights too Dom.......

I've never tested PAR levels Mindy, sorry i'm no help. Just as a FYI, both my 400W Radiums are 14 months old with an average of 6 hours a day run time over that period. I'll change them in the next few weeks as i just noticed a tiny amount of dusting on a few areas of the display sand bed for the first time in... ever.

I need to make another scaping video to show you what i've been up to on the left side of the display. I have that color blob valida on it's own rock behind the new main left island - it's left of the orange pave island i showed you. When i was at Dave's Saturday last i was looking for something to place to the right of that dark beast. It needed to be bright like the fluoro aculeus i placed in front of it for max contrast and have upward, rather than my usual tabling growth acro picks. It would sit right behind that yummy new blue branch i scored a few weeks earlier so it couldn't be a blue stag etc.

Anyway, as soon as i spotted the branch i thought ' PERFECT ! ' It was quite a bit more washed out than now and Dave said it was ignored Thurs - Sat by everyone because it shipped so poorly and it was actually pretty colorless when unbagged. I happen to know that Dom ignored this branch in a visit before me.......... ' massive ' missed opportunity i'd say...... :hmm5:

When did this turn into the pick on Dom thread hahahaha Mark and I thought you'd very much enjoy the surprise as we knew exactly how you'd react and you haven't failed to disappoint haha. Mark and I had a jolly good time deciding on all the ways we could wind you up and I know we will again this Friday when I head over for my usual day of relaxation haha

It's not nice teasing someone who shouldn't be buying acros yet!! I did buy one piece while I was there though lol deep ice blue with green corallite rings :inlove:

Oh Andrew, you don't know what you're missing! Playing with a PAR meter can eat away a whole day! :D

I think I saw a green Acro in those pics above. I thought you didn't let those things in your tank?

Andrew, I have the solution to your problem. Its a very American solution. Its very controversial, but it will work. I am very hesitant on posting it. I will, if you want me to.

Marty

Dave said Christian just isn't cutting it any more, I think you need to tell Christian he ought to pick up his game Andrew!

I rate Domshop a solid five star , great communicator , great packaging , WYSIWYG !!!
Yap ! Cheers for those peachy coloured slices. @Wrangy
They arrived today and showing great PE

biggles, would you mind sharing what you see in those three pieces?
I picked out the two orange pieces, but what do you see in the blue one?

It's purple not blue, the red down low on the branches is a dead giveaway no matter how blue it looks bleached out......... you got to know what you're looking at ;)

It is missing the rusty red zoa that will cover the blue and make guess what color.......

33_zpsluqiesa0.jpg

There are many ' traps for young players ' as my dad used to say. You are looking at acros almost devoid of zoa, the glow is the white skeleton actually adding pop beneath the pale pigment. Bright light on white acro looks glowing white, lay a thin translucent colored tissue over it and you get a pastel acro orgasm of choices.

The missing zoa numbers and shades will transform most of those crazy pieces into run of the mill colors most of you would be very disappointed with. Think about how stressed those acros are to have such low zoa numbers........ don't tell me the full blown pastel reef keeping methods are anything close to keeping a natural color display. Proof is well and truly in the pic my friends.

Are you talking about monti garbage Nils.......... slice and polyps sounds like garbage to me mate.......:twitch:

You're not the only that gets secret acro messages ;)
Nah I just got the green bits :lolspin:

You know i will set the alarm for 3am just to wake you with a filthy text about your attempt at green humor.......... greener.....:love1: :D
