Hello,
I am somewhat new to the hobby and am looking for advice. I have a 90gal reef tank with some leather coral an frogspawn and some zoas.... I now have 4 fish, a pair of snowflake clowns , a regal, and yellow tang.... all quite small. I used to have a coral beauty and a diamond back goby.
When I started I made some mistakes that cost me 2 fish and allot of stress and sadness. The first mistake was thinking I did not need to quarantine fish. I set the tank up and added the clowns, coral beauty and goby and everyone was fine for about 8 months. I then figured I would add two tangs. The tangs brought Ich into the tank and long story short.... I am down two fish and allot of sadness.
The second mistake was thinking that I did not need a hospital tank and that I could find a black magic treatment that would work in mu display tank. So I found an Ich treatment that was "œReef Safe" and jumped on in....... that killed 2 corals, my emerald crab, and a sand sifting starfish. :sad2:
Doing this almost made me put the tank on Kijiji, aside from the $$ in fish it was devastating knowing I was responsible for killing several living animals. All of whom had become part of our family. Instead I decided that it was my ½ assed approach and I decided then and there that I would never take the easy or shor way again. My fish are now in a hospital tank and doing much better. It has been a month and the fish are better but they will stay in the hospital tank for another month so the ich can die in the display tank.
With that on the table I have a couple of questions:
1. I would love to get an Anemone for the clownfish when they return to the tank. Can I add one while the tank is sitting idle waiting for the ich to die off?? They are invertebrates so I think so but I am a little gun shy now and don't want to rush it...... I would live for it to be in the tank and before the fish return but I could hold the fish in a hospital tank for linger if needed? Do I need to quarantine an Anemone? If so how? And for how long?
2. Same question for corals? I wanted to add some LPSs to the tank, I have never quarantined corals and I am not sure if it is necessary?? Aside from aphasia is there anything I need to worry about for corals?
I want to do thing the right way and not put anymore animals at risk but I also don't want to overdo it with 3 different quarantine tanks all over the living room? At some point my very understanding wife will start to become somewhat less understanding with my new not so cost effective hobby :clown:
Sorry of this is a long post and thanks for your help with this?
