My little brother is currently working as a deck hand on a sail boat in the Marshall Islands. He recently visited a clam farm in Majuro and wrote this to me in an email: "I went to the clam farm today in Majuro and it was amazing!!! They had over 30,000 clams! We also went to two pearl farms and I got a detailed tour of how they do everything. Unfortunately I was unable to purchase anything, but I'll try again later, if I catch one of the Aussie guys out who runs the place, as they seemed really cool. They had over 200 clams that were over 16 inches across!!!! These included Squamosas, Gigas, and Derasas. In addittion they had Maximas over 12inches, maybe 40, and probably 6,000 2-6in Crocea's and probably 5,000 Hippopus hippopus and probably 10,000 more 1-3in clams of each species. Some of the Hippopus were over 10 inches across which is something I haven't seen in the states. They also had maybe 10,000 acro frags and another 10,000 soft coral frags and 10,000 lps frags!!! It was amazing!!! They were really busy working, so I didn't get to see if I could buy some under the table, but I will try if I can catch an employee when they aren't super busy. We sorta dropped in on them. They also had tons of reef fish, carpet anemones, and other various aquatic things. I think now I can breed clams if I wanted to as they gave us a long speech on how they did EVERYTHING!!!! I wish I could have setup buying something, but was unable to. They only sell to ORA in Florida on the books, but they sell to people in japan, and europe and I bet individuals who are friends of theirs. It was a great time!" When he gets back, maybe he will have some pic I can post!
