A wee bit of help please.

Reno Reef

Last night when I got home (around 11:45pm) from work I noticed that one of my False Percs (the one I believe is the male) was hanging around the top of the tank.

These are tank raised, and I bought them about 5-6 months ago.

Swimming oddly and slowly. Every time he would come down to the xenia he hosts in the female would bite him and he would swim up to the top.

Well this morning when I got up he is still up at the top, his swimming seems slow, and he gets pushed around by the current alot.

These are the only params I can test for.

SG 1.026
Amm: 0
trite: 0
Trate: .25
PH:

any ideas?

Ok so at feeding I noticed that the male wasnt eating anything. So I made the decision to move the male to my 14G that only has some zoos and a small piece of GSP.

I figure if I have to start treating I can to it in this tank.

hmmm... somthing similar happened to my maroon about 4 months after i had her. She wasent swimming near the top (whitch is a sign of lack of oxygen) but was suddenly real lethargic and wouldent eat. laid in the nem instead of wiggling in it.

Well i moved mine to qt and kept an eye on her. after day 2 she was swimming at the top, breathing heavy.. then fin rot, and swelled cheeks, still not eatting.
I finally got great advice from a fish doctor... She said it was a bacteria infection and to treat with maracyn 2 for saltwater. Double the dose (so in a ten gal that would be 2 tabs the first day, and 1 tab a day for the rest of treatment.
It took 3 days after treatment started for her to eat. she had stringy poop (and it was part of the infection not internal parasites) and even her coloring was off.
The maracyn 2 has an appitite stimulant as well...

Its a year later and my maroon is a beast. I firmly believed it saved her life.

Im not saying this is exactly what your fish has, Im not an expert, I just follow the experts advise. But it sounds similar.

Do you have a QT or can you turn your 14G into a qt? (no sand no rock) add some pvc pipe so it can hide out, whitch it'll want if its sick....

tourkid, Thanks so much. The fins were looking a little bad as of this afternoon when I was on my way to work.

I will truck on over to the LFS tomorrow before work to pick up some of the maracyn 2.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.

get a move on, fin rot sux!! Heres my girl all sick. its so sad.

maracyn wont hurt the biofilter in the qt, your water will be a brite yellow after it disolves, thats normal. I cant think of anything else pertinant, just make sure you get the saltwater kind (theres a tang on the box) and i like the tabs over powder.

her fins started healing very rapidly..do you see how her cheeks are swelled? really freaked me out.
