A word of warning!

I just got back from "the o" and stopped by aquapets and paradise cove. PC as usual was the place to be, I came to omaha to find peppermint shrimp, and pcp had 3 for $19.99! Awesome, to me anyways. I also stopped by Aquapets to check in on the progress, I haven't been there in close to a year, and things were looking ok. I grabbed a few small frags of some monti's and caulestrea for a decent price, basically "test peices" if you will, for my tank. When I got home I immediatly put them in another container and checked the salinity with my refractometer to know how long of an acclimation period we would need. I was SHOCKED to see a reading of 1.033!!!! I cannot believe this! I've heard stories of low SG from AP, but nothing this rediculous.

Needless to say, someone needs to top off up there!

I won't be shopping at aquapets any time soon.

I've checked the water level of the lfs that I go to all the time. There water is really off on everything. I mainly go there because the people are super friendly and seem to know there stuff (besides on how to keep there water at safe levels). There aren't many places around here that sell salt water anything. So the supply isn't all that great.

It's a good word of warning though.

I measured it with a refractometer, after that shocking result, I did calibrate it with fresh RO/DI from my Typhoon III and I got the same results.

As far as "seem to know there stuff", the guy was trying to tell me how to take care of montipora, I quote "Lighting isn't an issue with these types of corals, you want to make sure you have lots of plankton and dust in the water for them to filter out"

Right, I'll be sure to get right on that... PFFT

I'm not saying I haven't had good experiences at AP, but this is just another drop in the "so why do I give you guys my money?" bucket.

Thats why 4 of my friends and I have not shopped there in 7 months considering I bought 2 120 gal aquariums from them.

Saltwater fish and corals sell themselves. I always get scared when someone is putting a hard sell on when it comes to livestock.

I'll admit the new guys (new from my standpoint at least) at AP have issues. Just last week I almost had to argue with a guy because he knew better than I what I wanted...
Dillon and Kindra? seem pretty cool though... wish they would have stopped to help me instead of leaving me hanging with him. I did have the same type of experience in regards to their advice on lighting a month or so ago.... It must be standard if they think you don't have any lights over your tank?

The only thing I will ever buy from them again is R/O water. I bought a fish and did everything right and it was dead the next day. Fish from them never live long
