Abnormal Growth on Rocks

This is not a photo of my aquarium, but what I have in mine looks exactly like this.

I cannot seem to ID it. Any know what this purple stuff is on the rockwork.

NOTE: It is Not Coralline Algae as is soft and slimy. It is also thick and very dense. Its is growing in paches and sometimes is will grow over small coral.

Please help if you can.

if it looks like this it's cyano/red slime algae. I have thus stuff in my tank too. If it is a relatively new tank it's normal.

Hard to tell from the pics but definitely could be cyano or some type of sponge. Keep an eye on it. It's it starts to get hairy and lots of bubbles on it it's cyano.

My tank has been up for 10 years. This has never grown hairy. It had small tubes on it. That appear to take in water.

I am very familiar with Cyano. This is not it. This is firm to the touch.

My vote is for encrusting sponge as well. I have them in red, yellow, white, green, black, and orange. All are good IME.

Yeah, sponge.

I have something that is the same color that I wish was a sponge, but I think mine is algae (no inlet holes like yours).

Thanks guys I'm 100% confident it's ID'd as a sponge now. Super pretty being that it's purple.

Also.... This is in several places on my LR. Nice to see it like this as sponges are great for filtering water naturally.
