Since I don't have accurate test kits. (yet) I was hoping that someone could tell me how much potassium nitrate will raise levels... oh say about 5ppm to x amount of water. Any advice on p04 and nitrate test kits that don't cost an arm and a legg would be appreciated also.
Thanks. Ant

In this thread you will find a recipe for making a solution which will raise X amount of gallons to X ppm and it does work. However it is going to be difficult to determine what the uptake rate is going to be so you will need a good accurate test kit. I would recommend Salifert they're around 20 bucks and you'll get alot of tests out of one kit. I wouldnt do any dosing until you know what you have for parameters allready and can monitor the dosing for verification.

Yep, I just read that whole thread, helps.
The test kit that I have always used has been a dip strip. So it has always been 0 or less than 10pmm. Thanx for the advice, I just thought that 1 or 2ppm would be fun to experiment with. How accurate is the salifert test kit? I was thinking lamotte.

I dont have any experience with the Lamotte kit so I cant recommend. The Salifert kit is accurate down to .2 ppm and up to 100 ppm.

Well I finally got my two new test kits....

Nitrates= undectable (lamotte, low range)
Phosphate= undectable (lamotte)

So I dosed 3ppm kno3 today, and gona see how it goes...

PS: This is mainly for my refugia, connected to my reef.
