My Personal Experience at About The Reef
I started this hobby about 6 months ago and the first place that I went was ATR, it came very highly recommended, I spent over 600$ for tank and supplies. I followed there directions to the "T" on how to set up my tank. After about 1 month I went back to purchase my first fish for my new tank, before I bought any I had my water tested by them, it tested good. I then purchased 1 yellow frog fish ($120) and 1 figi fox face rabbit fish ($90) plus food and other supplies for a total of $260 for the visit. I took them home and dripped acclimated them for 1 ½ hours. The two fish lived in the tank for 6 days, the ATR policy is that if they die with in 7 days that they will give you a store credit for the value of the purchase, but the water parameters have to test perfect. But as anyone knows that when you add livestock to the tank that levels may raise a little. When I took my two dead fish back to ATR to discuss what might have gone wrong and to get a store credit, I ran into a snag (Skip). I was told by Skip himself that they were not responsible for the death of the fish, because they both were venomous and may have killed each other and that my water parameters were off a little. I could not spend any more time dealing with this situation at the time for I had to return to work, so I called my wife to let her know what had happened. She called to speak with Skip to get more information about why we would not receive a credit, according to my wife the conversation got heated, and she was told by Skip that he would not be loosing any sleep over the fact that we lost over $200 dollars worth of fish and then he proceeded to hang up on her. After careful consideration we contacted our bank to file a complaint, after about 4 to 6 weeks of them disputing it for us we received a full refund from the bank. In the end we got our money back, but I still am disappointed. The amount of disrespect that he and the store showed me and my wife is disgusting and no one should have to deal with that. I think that the situation could have been handled better by Skip and they should have informed me more about the fish that I had purchased and maybe steered me to less expensive livestock for my first purchase. I have talked to a few people from RC about ATR and they seem to have had similar issues. I feel as if I am not welcome back in ATR and maybe that is why more people have not posted there experiences for fear that they will feel the same way, because ATR is one of the better livestock and supply stores in the valley.
