About to introduce two large angels...what are my chances?

It's almost been one year since I set up my 315g (84"x24"x36") and I am finally about ready to add the two fish that got me hooked on the hobby. Large angels were the reason I set up my large fish only, so this is an exciting time.

My current occupants include:

3" yellow tang
4" copperband butterfly (first fish in tank, had for almost a year)
5" magnificent foxface
5.5" naso tang
6" blue tang

The two angels are a 6.5"-7" queen angel and a 6" majestic (blue girdled) angel. I purchased the queen from Divers Den and have had her in a separate tank for over 4 months. She is doing extremely well and eats and everything I offer.

I just got the majestic angel about a week ago and she is already eating nori/PE mysis aggressively. I am confident she will do well.

The majestic will stay in QT for another 4-5 weeks, then both angels will be added at the same time to the 315g.

What are my chances everyone will get along? Right now the blue tang is boss in the 315g.

As a suggestion I would rearrange the rock to create caves and blinds for the angels to get away from each other from time to time. T

I thought about this too and think it's a great idea, unfortunately I don't think it will be possible. I used acrylic rods to stack all my rocks and working in a 36" tall tank with 400+ lbs of liverock and fish would be very tricky.

Have you added any fish after the blue tang? Most likley you will be ok because they are a little bigger than the tang and they are a different fish all together.Add them late at night after your lights have been out and all the fish go to bed.I do this with my triggers and it seems to cut down on the aggression towards new additions.

I would treat both for flukes before you add them. I got a large 10" queen a few months back, after about 3-4 weeks in my tank I realized it had flukes.

My queen is a big bully, doesn't go out of his way to chase but if another fish gets to close my queen gets really aggressive.

Good luck, hopefully the queen will be the boss and the majestic will be second in command. IMO it was a good choice to get a larger queen.

The only fish I have added after the blue tang is the naso tang. They definitely don't like each other, but seem to stay out of the others way and are each eating very well.

Both of those angels are absolutely beautiful. I love the majestic and keep one myself but that queen is awesome, some of the pics show a lot of green, which to me makes for the very best looking queens. I would add them at the same time and hope for the best but if I had to venture a guess I would say that the queen will be dominant.

My majestic (adult) is in with a similar mix of fish, very much like yours, and shares a 180 with an emp (large juvie), tangs and rabbitfish. The Majestic is actually the dominant fish but the emp is changing and growing faster than the majestic. It's hard to say how they will interact, you just need to be mindful that one of them may need to be removed in a hurry.

Think your chances are good Brandon, and at the end, all will come to individual fish characters. Have seen Emperor & Majestic tank work well, so hopefully it does for you. Would either introduce both at same time or the Queen last. Night introduction and a couple mirrors handy in case there is a need to distract someone, are good ideas.

Both fish look very healthy, your Queen is a beauty. Recently grabbed a Townsend juvenile from DD and hope it keeps the Queen's dorsal-anal fin electric blue edges as it changes into adult coloration. Good luck!

Beautiful fish. Please keep us posted on how this goes for you. I'm considering adding a Blueline in with an Emperor in a similar sized tank 84x36x36.

I just wanted to update this thread after adding both angels a few days ago.

The majestic angel is very shy and hides much of the day, although this is not surprising as he was like this while in QT too.

The queen is definitely the more dominant fish. The first day there was a decent amount of chasing and establishing territory. As the days have gone by this has slowed down, but the majestic definitely stays out of the queens way.

None of the other fish have shown any reaction to the addition of the two angels and everyone is eating very very well.
