ABS Bulkhead Question

I am using a abs slip bulkhead on my return. I will be using the special abs to PVC glue but notice it says for low pressure only.

My return is 800gph, 3/4" to manifold, then converts to 1" tube to bulkhead. 1" bulkhead. There is a bushing that goes back to 3/4 on wet side of bulkhead.

Question is will the joint hold up.

Thanks

All returns (if appropriately sized) are low pressure. You should be fine. Just slop it on there good and let it cure overnight.

As windlasher mentioned, your dealing with low pressure so you shouldn't have a problem with leaks from pressure. I prefer to use threaded bulkheads and use a male adapter to go from the pvc to the bulkhead. This provides a couple of advantages. No concern about good bond between dissimilar materials and allows you to breakdown the joint in the future and reuse the bulkhead and piping. A little Teflon tape on the thread adapters will give you a good seal.

I didn't think it would be a problem. I assume I'm not the only one. Previous design constraints prohibit the thread slip adapter.

Regardless of the design, because your plumbing is all open-ended, it is at very low pressure. Although I would not suggest you do so, you could almost get away with just pushing the pvc into place and allowing friction to hold it there. Whatever pvc cement you choose will be more than enough.

THIS -

I just noticed some salt creep on a union from my dual return running off of a 1200gph Panworld pump. When I looked at it I realized that I had not glued one side of the union. It's been running that way for months. Could have been a disaster and would have sprayed all 40 gals of my sump up the wall and all over my floor in less than a minute. In other words, forgettabouit.

As others stated, low pressure. I have some of my plumbing just pushed together(friction fit) and I have no leaks.
