AC3 Email Q'S

if you go to your pc, and click on run, type in "cmd", a black window comes up and you can type in "telnet (your ac3 ip address). That will bring you into your controller and you can test your email setting :)
 
If I was to switch from 25 to port 587, wouldn't I have to change that on my controller and on gmx? I know how to update the controller to 587, but how would I do that on gmx?

i am also trying to set this up. I can't seem to figure out what to input in for SMTP and authorized user? do i put my email here.. i am using a web based emial aka hotmail account.

i also signed up with my isp (rogers) and signed up and confirmed the email.

as soon as i log into the controller using telnet i type in cons and it gives me this right away:

smtp: server= 281473cf
smtp: tcp connect error - - 1
 
This error indicates that the AquaController can't open the smtp port (default is 25) to your smtp server. From a command shell on your PC type 'telnet smtp_server 25', to confirm that you can connect to the smtp server. If not the smtp server or port # is wrong, or your ISP is blocking the connection.

With internet security being a big deal nowadays, most servers now require SSL connection (gmail for instance). Does Aquacontroller support connecting to SMTP server via SSL? if not, then this is an area for improvement, more like just keeping up to date with technology.

padrino, make sure your isp smtp does not require ssl. I know comcast requires ssl, come to think of it, I think none of the email servers I use now takes non-ssl connection.

ok last night i was able to retrieve the program/ modify the seasonal chart through aqua notes, i did this by changing the email to the rogers email and changing the port to 587. i still cannot get teh email function to work though.. At least i am seeing progress slowly. Curt, thanks for the help over the phone 2 days ago. i switched the port back to 25 to try your test.

i typed 'telnet smtp_server 25' and got the following
"could not open connection to the host on port 25, connect failed"

i typed in telnet 192.168.0.50 being the aquacontroller. I then had to login and give password.... port is back to 587..
typed in cons
1 maild

and this is what comes up. lots of this.. hope you can help.

That error indicates that the smtp server isn't available for some reason. I recommend trying a different smtp server.

Im not sure i understand. Where can i find the differenet servers. When i called rogers (isp) they told me the smtp= smtp.broadband.rogers.com and pop= pop.broadband.rogers.com
ip 192.168.0.50
gateway 192.168.0.001
dns address 192.168.0.001
alt dns address 192.168.0.001
netmask 255.255.255.0

web server port 80
 
using telnet i typed in the smtp server that was given to me by rogers:
telnet smtp.broadband.rogers.com 587
it seemed to jump to a fresh window and says telnet smtp.broadband.rogers.com in the heading. check out the pic.. does this mean i connected to the server? I also tried to send a test email from the controller and nothing happened on the controller and i still have not received anything... i think im almost there... maybe not

what do i do now at this screen??

The telnet test was to confirm that you can get a connection to the smtp server. You can.
The smtp server is having a problem with your login name and password. Are they correct on the AquaController? If so, have you tried shutting off authentication on the AC3?
The error message is not the normal authentication error type message, so I'm not 100% certain on the cause. Either the server doesn't support authentication or the login/password are incorrect.

Thanks for teh reply, i had no idea. The login and password on the authentication are not default .. im not sure. How would i change this? Go into the controller and and turn auth off?

i turned the email authorization off on the ac3 .. now this is what i get
