AC3 Web Access

Ok, I know this question has been asked so many times, but after ready and changing settings for so long I now have to ask for help.....

I have an AC3, Linksys WRT160N, AT&T DSL service with a static ip address, and a dyndns.org account.

I have tried everything to get remote access to the AC3 with no luck.

I have enabled DDNS access in the router, forwarded ports in Applications & Gaming and still can't get access. I'm also trying to access with my iphone, but no luck.

I have given the AC3 an ip address of 192.168.0.50 with a port of 8080. I then went into the router and forwarded port 80 to 1080, port 1080 to 1080, and port 23 to 1080 all with the ip address of 192.168.0.50. Still no luck.

I can not access it by xxxx.dyndns.org:1080 or xxxx.dyndns.org but I can access it at 192.168.0.50:1080

Any help or ideas?

Try this.

First, remove forwarding from 80 to 1080 and 23 to 1080. Instead, add 23 to 1023 together with 8080 to 1080.

What is your router's local IP? Is it 192.168.0.1? or maybe 192.168.0.10? In any case, on your AC3, set the Gateway option to the IP of your router.

Try xxxx.dyndns.org:1080 from browser and xxxx.dyndns.org:1023 on the iPhone app.

Btw, I suggest you change back AC3's port setting to 80 instead of 8080. Then, on your router, forward 80 to 1080.

I don't think the LinkSys supports forwarding a port to another port (no LinkSys I have seen to date). Anyway; coralfish, I have screens from DynDns and LinkSys router (not yours bug I've found most are simular). You might want to take a look at them (click my website; FAQ page).

Are you able to access the AC3 internally (inside your home network)?

This could be either your port-forwarding not working or your dyndns mapping not working. Can't tell just yet from the info given.

Can you check your currently assigned IP address by looking at your router status screen then go to your dyndns account screen and see if it matches what dyndns thinks your address is? You can also observe the date/time last updated on your dyndns account screen. This will rule out any dyndns issues.

For the port forwarding testing, you can try to telnet into your AC3 from the internet (not from your intranet) by manually typing the your currently assigned IP address. You'd need access to an internet connected device with a telnet client to do this.

I have a static ip address of xx.x.xxx.26 and dyndns recognizes this, but in the status screen of my router it has 192.168.1.97 and it will not change.

I do have the router set for DHCP. I cannot telnet into my ip address of xx.x.xxx.26

Maybe I just need to reset my router and start over?

When I try to connect at xxxxxxx.dyndns.org:1080 it tells me that

There is both an internally facing address for the router with a 192.169.x.x address and an externally facing address with an address such as xx.x.xxx.26. It looks like you are looking at the router info screen which tells you the internally facing address. There is probably another screen on the router that tells you the publicly facing address.

What if you try xx.x.xxx.26:1080?

It really sounds to me like your port forwarding is not working properly. A reboot of the router can't hurt.

xx.x.xxx.26:1080 tells me that Internet Explorer cannont display the webpage. Also I cannot telnet to my static ip address either.

I have to agree with ah30k; either the incorrect IP address is configured or the port forward is not correctly configured. Would it be possible for you to take screen shots of the screens and send them so we can take a look and see if we see something missing?

AC3 Web Access

Here is a copy of the screen shot. I ran into a little trouble with my router and reset everything. I know have the following ports forwarded, but still can't access outside of my LAN.

If you drop to a dos window and do a nslookup xxxxxxx.dyndns.org do you see your routers current ISP address? If so then dyndns is working properly.

For nslookup I get:

xxxxxxx.dyndns.org
Server: launchmodem
Address: 192.168.x.xxx

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: xxxxxxx.dyndns.org
Address: 192.168.x.xx

Ports are pictured at:

Looks to me like something is amiss with your dyndns settings. The non-authoritative answer should be a public ip (preferrably the one assigned to your modem by your ISP) and not a private ip.
