acan ball on sand or rocks

Recently got a colony of acans from the store but it already took the shape of a ball. Will it grow more if I leave it on the sand or if I put it on a rock will it spread onto the rocks.

Personally i would mount it on rock I feel the sand would irritate it too much to start killing off polyps on the edge of the colony (done that before)

I'm following too. I have about a dozen heads that were fragged on a piece of rock and some of the heads are on the side of the rock touching the sand.
