I have an acan that was in a friend's tank where it browned out. I have it under 175 watt halides in a 24 inch deep tank. It seems to be loving life almost directly under one of the bulbs but in the sandbed. I am wondering how long it takes a happy, well fed acan to recolor.
I will have to post a picture later but as of last night just before lights out I could see some color coming back. Instead of poop brown it is closer to a burgundy brown. I have it almost directly under a 175 watt MH with a spider reflector. There is about an inch of sand so I would say the acan is about 23 inches down. I have also been feeding it a very small amount of seafood once a day or so. Since there are only two polyps feeding it to satiation is not killing my water quality. I believe the better presentation is due to fedings of course as well as light.
