I recently bought a really nice wild acan colony and it was doing great. I noticed that the polyps on one side were melting one by one. I was at a loss as to the cause all my sps and lps was thriving.
threes nights ago I shone a torch into the tank and there it was on the damaged polyp area a crab the same size, shape and colour as one of the acan polyps. I watched it feeding on the polyps and the used my forceps to remove it. I was slow and easy to catch but the resemblance to the polyps was uncanny. I my relief at finding the culprit I destroyed it with out a picture which was stupid.
The polyps are already recovering nicely.
so if your coral is from the wild and starts to die look for a crab
