acan let go of skeleton?

So I have a 20g long with 2 koralia nano 425's and a viper 150w mh plus a aqueon 20 filter. I buy a 3 headed acan rainbow frag and acclimate and put it in my tank. I feed mysis a couple of hours later and it takes it. 3 days later I notice that the rainbow part of the acan has let go and all 3 heads are scattered and I"m left with a skeleton. I"ve never heard of this.

What your describing sounds like polyp bailout.

i just made a thread about my torch coral doing this. Had it for 7 months, and all of the sudden they just let go. I have 4 torch coral heads sitting in the sand now. I guess polyp bailout is the new fad these days!

I've never seen it happen before. I was actually thinking maybe the peppermint shrimp had ripped them out. Funny thing is of course the skeleton is just there but the three polyp heads are just sitting on the sand bed not disintegrating or anything

Very common with LPS.

Generally its a flow issue.... meaning too much flow hitting the polyps directly.

I am not 100%, but I would say they were peeled off by the flow.

BUT, you said you are only running two Koralia nanos.... which is really not that high of flow.

Did you check your parameters? Perhaps it is just not happy with the water conditions.

I lost about 4 heads on one of my acans.... then I moved it and the recession stopped.

Thanks. I have noticed the same with a couple of acan frags in my tank recently. I think I might have my MP10 ramped up too high.

I would rule out parameters as a factor first as then go from there.
