Candy Cane has recovered... Day 7

Found a new bivalve in my zoa garden... there are two here :)

That first one looks like it might just make a come back :hammer:

That'd be a miracle at this point. I'm going to attempt to feed them again tonight. I've been depositing rotifers and Rod's Food fish eggs on them every night since this whole thing started.

There were all with the lights off.

Acans 1 and 2 did not like that dip at all. But like you said if there was rotting tissue, perhaps they were on their way out anyway. It looks like Acan one only has two mouths left. But they do look better and seem to be showing improvement. Same with the mouths on Acan 2, looks like they are on the come back. I'd say since they survived that dip, they'll continue to recover barring any more set backs.

Great pics by the way. Keep up the good work bro.

Yeah, I'm thinking most of the heads that disintegrated after the dip were likely riddled with issues and were just slowly dying. I'm not saying Acan 1 and 2 will make it, but they've survived a week and an iodine dip and appear to be eating. If I can keep them clean and fed with constant water parameters, they may have a shot.

Also, after getting a DSLR, nice flash and a macro lens, I won't go back to P&S cameras. There are maybe 3 pictures I took of Acans 1, 2 and 3 that don't appear in this thread. Every other picture you see are in sequence.

What kind of camera do you have?

I've got a Nikon D3000 but no macro lens. I've been thinking about getting one though and I also need to get a tripod.

My tripod hasn't been out in months... a good flash, good camera and good lens really minimizes the need for a tripod.

I have the Canon T2i, 100mm f/2.8L Macro and 580EXII flash. If you get a macro lens, light will become an issue so a flash really helps.
Most of these pictures were taken at ISO100, 1/4000th sec shutter, f/11... with the 580EXII set to +1 exp. It goes up to +3 but tends to blow out the picture firing that hot.
Macro before tripod :)

Agreed

When it comes to aquaria (sorry to derail) I prefer to shoot without flash. IMO flash really washes out the true colors of the fish or corals. My wife is the photography buff, but I think our settings are at higher ISO and a much lower shutter, but of course you have to hold still or nothing looks good. Either way, I'd like to get both, macro and a nice flash... ah the list goes on and on.

100mm f/2.8L Macro

:spin1: Me too, Me too! Awesome little lens

I actually never use a flash on my tank...I forget the exact settings but I usually bring it down to 1/25 and 600 IIRC. Just a lot of trial and error for me :) Macro pics of corals get boring IMO...too easy. Now fish, those are interesting but frustrating to take

I'm not sure if I agree that the flash washes out the colors...

Try getting noise free shots that freeze clownfish motion without flash lol.
:) not bad for "washed out"

I'm just giving you a hard time, but like anything... you have to practice using it and understand when and how much is appropriate. Also, post processing can help recapture pictures whether flash was used or not.

Now let's get this thread back on topic :)

Been following this thread with anticipation. Thanks for keeping the updates coming!

It doesn't look good for #1, but hey i also said the Heat would win...

I don't see where you've mentioned your Magnesium levels. I've found Magnesium to be very important, for the fleshy growth, on Acans and Echino type corals.

I don't test for Magnesium... always took care of it with water changes though I have an interest in making my own Mg supplements (Randy's formula?) if it would help anything. I checked once in town for a Magnesium test kit, but no where had it.

Acan 1 doesn't look so hot...

I don't know how confident I feel in Acan 2 either...

This Acan has me confident that if I were to get new acans, they would do well... as it's pretty happy and eating very well.

Acan 1
Start - 1 Week - 2 Weeks
It doesn't really look like it's improving to me anyway.
Acan1-1.jpg

Acan 2
Start - 1 Week - 2 Weeks
This one really looks to have taken a turn for the worse the last couple days. It's lost it's color and receded a lot.
Acan2-1.jpg

Acan 3
Start - 1 Week - 2 Weeks
This one looks to be really enjoying the tank.

Tough man. Those first two are definitely looking iffy. Good luck. Love the progression shots too. Thanks for posting.
