My acans are not expanding like they use too. I see them open there feeders at night but when the lights are on they don't expand anymore.... they use to puff up huge now they don't

My tank is using a lot of calcium and ALK every day...

I try to keep my cal at 400
and alk at 8.5

but my cal lowers 40 everyday
and my alk lowers like around 2 every day.

my mag stays stable at 1300
nitrates at 0
phosphates at 0

90 gallon reef tank mostly SPS and Acans

30 gallon sump with mangroves, carbon, protien skimmer, phos reactor....trying to get my cal reactor hooked up now.

Can someone please help!!! :eek2:

I have the same issue but they don't seem to suffer. I'd be interested in knowing if anybody has been able to reverse this. In fact, almost all my SPS are on a reverse cycle in which I get polyp extension at night under the actinics and none during the day. I've tried feeding only during the day but to no avail. Same issue with my Acans and my Duncans.

For me, my Acan's are 18" below t5 lighting and my SP are about 6-8" under. I've tried moving the Acans to different levels of shading and different levels of flow so I gave up. They now sit down low towards the front of the tank and do just fine. Just not open during the day. At night, it's a different story. They seem to open up so much that they turn themselves inside out. :)

I think my problem might be that I have to change my lights out. It's been 14 months now. I have powermodule T5 lighting. I am going to replace my lights and then see what happens.

I was just about to ask when you last changed your lights!
I had the same problem - lights were 12 months old. 2 days after new lights went in, as if by magic, Acan opened and fully inflated
