acans bleaching under 22" of water w/t5?

RAIDER NATION!
Acans losing color on the sand bed with only an aquatic life 8 bulb( 2 fixtures) 54 watt per bulb fixture. Seems to be turning the polyps white. On the other hand, sps, and my nem( lta) are coloring up. One sps is actually bleaching too! Are the acans gonna be ok if I move them?

I bought a 5 head red acan frag. I put it on the sand in my 75 with 4 T5 bulbs. It slowly turned from red to pink to almost white. I moved it to a couple other spots in the tank to no avail. I then put it in a semi-shaded spot on the sand and after about 3 or 4 weeks it slowly started to get it's colour back. It has been in the shade for for about two months now and is almost red again. My suggestion is to put it in a semi-shaded spot, spot feed it a couple times a week during the day and wait. Good luck.

It can be tough to say without tank params. Could be low alk (this can also cause sps to bleach), Mag could be off etc.. You also dont mention how deep your tank is. Or how long your lights stay on. So from the info it's tough to say what your problem could be. What sort of husbandry habits you have etc.. What type of corals you have in your tank, how much water volume you have, flow. There are many many things that could cause it to bleach. Even poor acclimation to your tank. Temp swings, PH swings, It could be you have too low nutrients for the acan as well. You could move it to the shade if you feel it's getting too much color. Or you could spot feed as well, this can help them grow and color up. Acans do like to eat a LOT. But there is an entire list of things you need to go through in order to come up with a serious answer. People here are willing to help, but to get a good answer you should try posting all of your tank info including test numbers. Also pictures of the tank and the coral sometimes help people to diagnose problems as well.

Your right, I knew that too, just being lazy. Parameters are as followed, dkh@ 8.7, ca@ 400, ph @ 7.95 early in the morning, and 8.10 by evening. nitrates at 0, phosphates@<.25 and going down( newly added gfo) and temp stays constant 79*. 12hr photo period with a little more then 2.5 hour dusk/dawn. Tank is a 5x2x2 ( 150 gal) glass Visio with a 40 breeder sump( 25 gal volume) for a total of, an educated estimate, 152 gallons.

Actually I kind of did. About a month ago I switched to ATI bulbs from the stock aquatic life bulbs. I was worried about par since I have a nem and clam. Both doing great in the sand. 2' tall tank. Nem actually getting greener! Guess it was bleached( bought that way, didn't know much about them until I did research after purchase) bad, I know.
