acans generally come from deeper water. It is not always true that shadows are better, just that they prefer certain wavelengths of light. A higher K bulb will achieve the same results. However, they do not require the high par levels that is another reason to put them in shallows. When they are in too intense of a light the tend to brown up a bit. As long as they are on the lower two thirds you should be ok.
